My books.

Three-day holiday weekends blow because the buses don't run. I'm stuck at home or stuck in town waiting for rides, and my three favorite places (the post office, library, and bank) are closed.  Plus, I've had to work Friday, Saturday, baby-sat for seven hours on Sunday, and work today, so nothing's good. Which reminds me of the difference between ( Read more... )

1. I love that your favorite places include the bank and the post office. I don't know why, but I find this delightful. Can you tell me why they are in your top three?

2. My weekend, except for band practice (which was ok but not a total woohoo) and last night's delightful dinner with substitute, has been of the all-I'm-doing-is-working-and-this-blows variety too (until my semi-breakthrough about a half-hour ago). So I feel you.

3. I LOVE YOU for that east coast/west coast distinction because a) I frequently make it myself, even thought I know I am often making a flagrant and perhaps unfair generalization and b) the way you put it sums things up so well. (When I'm feeling particularly bitchy, I say that people on the east coast think and do, whereas on the west coast - well, specifically where I live right now - people shop and show.)

I have a headache.

I bank because the ladies that work at the bank love me for some reason. I mean, they are the nicest people and greet me by name, in unison every time I come in. They are the best sources of gossip, compliments on my articles in the paper, and butterscotch candies. Plus, I have a teensy bit of money these days, so it's nice to not be embarrassed about my balance when I make a deposit ( ... )

Thank you. Those are excellent reasons.

The library needed no explanation, as it is the library. I guess I feel that anyone who needs an explanation why a library (other than, perhaps, the library on campus, which just doesn't have the same feel as a neighborhood library) is a favorite place to go has something fundamentally wrong with him/her. This is judgmental on my part, and I don't care.
