I have 3 kids and I was adopted.

My first was a surprise, second was planned, third a surprise. First time I held the first one I was terrified and absolutely overjoyed. Second and third ones, just overjoyed :) Like... to the point where I absolutely cannot explain the love I have for that baby overjoyed.

I do not have kids. I do not plan on ever having kids. Kids squick me severely - especially the little drooly ones. The squalling ones make my head hurt ... but the well behaved ones are cute. I have had limited interaction with them (the last time I was around a baby was a good 10 years ago, when my mom handed off one of her friends infants to me - it made me very firmly decide I did not ever want one of my own), and intend to keep it that way.

I have two kids. The first one was a surprise and the second one was planned. The first time I held my daughter in the delivery room, it was like there was never anything in the world that would ever again be so right or so perfect. I loved her with every fiber of my being. Nothing else has ever compared to that moment. The instant and overwhelming love was the same with my son, although there was also worry and a fierce protectiveness thing going on. (He'd had the cord around his neck and they were doing the prelim checks without giving me any info. He was fine. :))

Before that, I'd had very limited contact with babies or kids. Other people's babies don't rouse the same feelings at all. I was either afraid of hurting them, thought they were icky, or found them annoying, depending on the individual baby. Now other babies aren't quite so annoying, and can be very nice, but they mostly make me nostalgic for my own. :)
