For me, I know I'm depressed when all I see around me are faults. I make it a constant effort to be a happy person at least 90% of the time. Change of perception, new principles, keeping myself busy. Once in a while I slip but that's what being human is all about.

Worry, really worry, when your depression becomes an excuse for everything that you think isn't working for you and when you keep telling yourself that you aren't good.

Hmm. When I see faults all around me, I'm just in a bad mood. Depression is commonly used to describe bad moods, but it's actually something more prolonged, like months.

Along those lines, my worry is that I'm always just in a plateu - not feeling, not really thinking, not excitable or enthusiastic... apparently that is also a form of depression. So it's a bit like: well, is this normal? I don't really think that I've always been this way. :(

I wish I could tell you some secret to answering your question regarding being depressed or not, but all I can do is give you some of my experience. I get accused of being depressed all the time. Not like a short term depressed mood but more like a general state of mind. I don't have any way to tell if I reall am or not. However, the only thing I can do is ask myself 'what do I have to even be depressed about?'. At least that's an easier question to answer and whatever the answer is gives you somewhere to start in finding a solution. I really believe anybody could be diagnosed as depressed, just like it seems anyone can be diagnosed with ADD or ADHD or RLS or OCD or social anxiety disorder or whatever the syndrome/disorder of the week is ( ... )
