this is what's been going on with me this week if you feel like reading
it. all of the entries are labelled a day ahead than they really
were because i usually wrote them at 2 am...
9/4/05first full day in london...not a terribly eventful day, though i
did get a nifty cell phone, and had REALLY good pizza. everything
is so ridiculously expensive here. when i open menus, i keep
think im looking at dollars, because dinners cost around 8-10 pounds,
except then i realize i have to DOUBLE that to get the american
equivalent. *shudders*. its gonna be hard to live so
sparingly, but we'll see how that goes. the evening was really
fun. after watching an episode of x factor(the british version of
american idol - also with simon cowell) i went out with two fo my flat
mates, sarah and andy(my roommate) to a lovely italian dinner. it
was full of good wine, good conversation, and good food. really
nice. afterwards, we came back and went up to our favorite boys'
flat, and played a really fun and rowdy game of taboo with said guys
(tim, omen, lucas, stan, matt, and chris). they are a really fun
bunch. afterwards, we watched an episode of the office, then andy
and i came back here. i talked to both my parents and dan (for
the first time) on the phone. which was really exciting, except i
think between the two calls it costed 8 pounds - yuck. anyways, andy
and i intended on going to bed early because we had to get up around
830 the next day, but ended up staying up until 230 talking.
9/5/05i was VERY tired today. i WILL get more sleep
tonight. anyways, today we had to make the half hour trudge to
BADA at 9 in the morning. not fun. then we had a 3 hour bus
tour of london. i went into st paul's cathedral while mass was
going on. i was overwhelmed when i heard the organs and the
singing - it was just truly beautiful. we saw pretty much all of
london, and most of us fell asleep on the bus (it was a cool double
decker thing!) afterwards, we went back to BADA for a beautiful
catered lunch which we ate in the courtyard. then we had a series
of talks with the faculty and i am now actually informed on what is
going on. we got our class schedules and im really excited to
start. im also really excited that i have no friday classes, as
this will make for greater ease with travelling. after departing
BADA, me, andy, and our friends katie, casey, and mariah walked
to camden town (a really nice, hip area with cool street markets and
stuff.) i bought some neat pins. as we were heading back, we
passed an internet cafe that was only a pound for an hour (which was
really cheap compared to starbucks' 7 pounds for an hour). so i
went on the internet for the first time since last thursday, and it was
wonderful! unfortunately the only conn friends that were on there
were pretty much all headed out to lunch, but i had a quick
conversation with rach and sasha. it was just good to feel in
touch with them. i also talked to emily from spain, which was
neat. after that, we came back to the flats, and had a collective
dinner with the boys upstairs - we brought wine, bacardi "refreshers",
bread, and grapes, they made tortellini with pesto sauce. it was
just pleasant all around, filled with good conversation. most of
the guys wandered off, and we were left hanging out in their living
room with matt and katie. we had so much fun, and were being
really silly. i just generally feel a pretty consistent sense of
belonging. especially when we hang out upstairs with the
guys. it's just really chill and theyre all fun and different in
their own ways. tomorrow is the first day of classes. im psyched,
but it's going to be a long day, and i need to get up early to trek
over to BADA to use the internet there in order to prepare a monologue
for my class at 11. said class meets 4 1/2 hours a week - oh
dear. anyways, time to go to bed. hoping for a successful day
tomorrow...
9/6/05today was the first day of classes. it went pretty
well. the acting class looks so far just like any other acting
class - just working monologues with a teacher who seems cool, and like
he'll be helpful. later in the day was shakespeare's comedies and
histories. i liked the teacher for that as well. i was
supposed to meet jon for dinner but he had a bit of an incident, so i
was disappointed that was cancelled. but instead i went with a
few friends (andy, jodi, megan, and katie) to a pub for fish and chips
and a pint. man that sounds british. it was a really nice
dinner though. when we got back we went up to the boys' flat once
again and hung out there until now (it's after 2 am). that just
seems to be the pattern we've created. it works for me.
it's looking like matt from that flat, and my friend katie might get
together. that'd be fun. we all joke how this living
situation is so "the real world". it really is though. anyways,
im too tired to say much more, but it was a good day overall.
tomorrow, two 2 1/2 hour acting classes and then to the globe to stand
through a 2 1/2 hour show. it's gonna be a lonnnng day.
9/7/05well it was indeed a long day. classes were good
though. john worked on my peter pan monologue with me today, and
it went quite well. it's one of the first times i can recall
being in an acting class and getting notes that i actually felt made a
difference. he was also pretty complimentary, so that was nice of
course. first day of shakespearean acting: cant tell what its
going to be like yet, but the teacher seems pretty cool. went to
the globe tonight and saw a 3 hour version of pericles. not sure
yet what i think about it, but i think that it was entertaining, and
fun to watch. im curious to see what everyone else will say about
it tomorrow in class. i cant believe that
it hasnt even been a week that im here - it feels like ive been living
here forever. tomorrow: must buy food, and possibly a mattress
pad and another towel. i just dont have time to do all these
things! ok, well im supremely tired - i think ill make it a new
record by getting to bed before 2 tonight...
