Top 50 Horror Moments In Film - 48, 47, 46.

Whilst there's another moment in Aladdin which is truly chilling, that moment is quickly nulified by the ending. Jafar's reign as a snake against Aladdin is great, truly chilling, and it has some of the best one liner's in a Disney film during the five minute finale. But before that is one of the best short little songs committed to film.

Prince Ali, yes it is he,
But not as you know him,
Read my lips and come to grips,
With reality,
Yes, meet a blast from your past,
Whose lies were too good to last,
Say hello to your precious Prince Ali!

Or should I say, Aladdin?

So Ali turns out to be merely Aladdin,
Just a con, need I go on!
Take it from me,
His personality flaws,
Give me adequate cause,
To send him packing on a one-way trip,
So his prospects take a terminal dip,
His assets frozen, the venue chosen,
Is the ends of the earth - whoopee!
So long, ex-Prince Ali!

The darkness of the scene, and the evilness of Jafar - possibly the most evil of all Disney characters in fact - is quite chilling. Sure, I may be 21 now, but this scene still gets me a little. Possibly the laughter at the end of the song, who knows. Have a listen for yourself: Prince Ali (Reprise) It's also worth noting that the blank white eyes of the Genie when he's in destruction mode - very briefly mind you - gave me nightmares for weeks after seeing Aladdin the first time. I didn't think such a loveable blue guy could be so mean. Fortunately they never did the same to Burk from The Trapdoor.

Whilst I think I'm the only person on earth who actually really enjoyed this film - as well as House Of Wax - and would gladly sit through them both again, there's very few who would disagree that the first ten minutes of Ghost Ship are damn fine. Quite the tour de force of gore, it's a great use of special effects. Whilst admittedly the rest of the film doesn't match up to the first ten minutes, it's still quite good.

I sadly don't own it on DVD so I couldn't get good screen shots, but the following is the best I could garner.

Once again, I'm going out on a limb and going to say that I am one of the few people who considers House Of Sand And Fog a horror movie. First of all, the main chick gets naked. Secondly, there's a house which seems to cause all these terrible events to happen - the main characters husband leaves her for no reason, she loses the house, the house inadvertantly causes a young boy to be shot, then there are two suicides at the end, alongside an attempted suicide. Thirdly, the house is encompassed in this massive fog throughout the majority of the film - a true signifier that possibly the house is haunted. Fourthly, the house was built by the main characters father, tying the house to his soul or some mumbo jumbo bullshit... I'm getting sidetracked.

When I first saw it, the finale freaked the shit out of me. After his son has been shot and his blood is on his hands, Ben Kingsley's perfectly portrayed Behrani goes home to his wife to face the troubles of what is to come. Instead of taking life as it comes after his sons death, he takes life in his own hands, along with his wife. The house causing these troubles upon Behrani's family.

If anything, the sight of seeing Gandhi with a plastic suit bag taped around his neck is chilling enough. Or hearing Kingsley shout over and over, I want only my son! I want only my son!
