Appearance
Scud has blue eyes, dark shaggy hair that looks in need of a cut, and a birth mark above the leftside corner of his lip. He's about 5'10, of average build, and had a lot of scars on his body that can tell a story. The most predominant scars though are on his stomach from two vampires that ripped at his flesh. He also has two tattoos - one inside his mouth on his lower lip which is the glyph for the Damaskinos; the other a second and older glyph on his right hip from another vampire house that even he can't tell you the name of due to not knowing.
Personality
At first look, Scud is a punk. C'mon, look at his name for crying out loud. Scud. He likes the nickname because it's different and can frequently tell people it's like "stud", leading to his slight ego that shows. He's a little cocky, will do what he has to in order to survive, and has the habit of chain smoking. Scud's a little bit of a flirt and doesn't usually have a filter, later regretting his words. Also, he's a familiar but that doesn't mean he actually likes vampires.
Scud's got a wall of defenses up to prevent people from knowing about anything from before Blade saved his ass, and if persistent enough, he won't talk about it! He'll ignore or walk away, sometimes even shout at said person. That being said, when he's not being bugged, Scud is usually found tinkering on things or watching cartoons - Powerpuff Girls being his favorite, oddly enough.
He's very hands on. Amped up Blade's car, his weapons, and even fixed up somethings the place they were crashing in. Also, even though he can create or fix up weapons, doesn't mean that he exactly can use them right. Give him a gun and he knows how to point and shoot. Everything else he would go to use would make him seem like a rookie. It's why he always says he's a lover, and not a fighter. Which brings us to his softer side, because yes, he has one. Scud can be as quiet as a mouse and just as gentle more often than not. Politeness doesn't factor in, since he most of the time isn't.
History
Joshua grew up having a really shitty childhood. His mother got pregnant with him and his father didn't want kids. His father told her to take care of it, but she wouldn't and had Joshua - sort of forcing responsibility on his father to be there for him. Now, he won't say much about what he remembers of his childhood, but he does remember hiding in closets when he got into trouble due to fear of his father hitting him and his mother would always protect him. Her sad smile is burned into his brain, since his father would take his anger out on her.
This went on until Josh was nine and until his parents were killed one night by vampires. He didn't witness it, due to being with his mother's friend and their neighbor at the time since she sent him away during one of his father's rage fits. The young boy was devastated to know his mother was dead, not so much his father; and was sent to an orphanage. This is where he started to pick up his tinkering and more rebellious ways. By thirteen and a half he was smoking and sneaking out of the orphanage, just to stand outside and enjoy the night air.
At the age of fourteen, Josh starting leaving the orphanage and going into the city. Sneaking into clubs, stores, bakeries, whatever he wanted to do because the freedom was exhilarating. It was on one of the outings where he met a vampire (unknown to Josh). They chatted and Josh ended up sort of spilling that he was tired of being cooped up in the orphanage, so the vampire told him to meet him the same day the following week. They continued to meet like that for a year, just hanging out and having a drink or smoke together. When he finally hit fifteen, the vampire offered him to come with him. Josh snuck out for the last time to go with his friend and got a lot more than he bargained for.
His friend was apart of a house of vampires and a turnblood, but the house was fairly big with a slightly angry vampire named Anton at the head spot and they welcomed Josh as a familiar. He didn't understand at first until they explained everything. Josh accepted to be a familiar and they promised to take care of him, giving him a glyph tattoo on his right hip. Things were good for the first week with the vampires. Josh actually found it to be really interesting.
But then they threw him to the wolves.
The vampires started parading him around with the others and his friend was suddenly gone. He started having to live in something more like a holding cell with a woman and she warned him things were going to get worse. And they did. The abuse he escaped as a child came back - vampires taking swings at him and attempting to bite him after licking his bleeding wounds, being called 'pet' and mocked for being a human, and even getting used for sex around the time he turned seventeen. At that point, he started going by the name Scud because he was tired of the vampires thinking up little pet names for him that were ridicule.
By eighteen, he'd somehow lived through almost three years of the same torment and the other familiar that he'd been roomed with never came back one night. Scud always told her he wasn't going to give up, but he was reaching the point where he thought it would be the better plan. Simpler. Someone came in then and wiped out the vampires and let him out. Scud never saw who it was or got to thank them, but he ran. He just ran until he collapsed.
As soon as he woke from collapsing though, he continued moving around doing odd jobs of fixing things and meeting people. It got him so far as overseas where he took the opportunity to backpack and see a little of the world while trying to stay away from vampires. And right before his twenty fourth birthday was when he took Janet and Chrissy to his tent while backpacking for, as he calls it, "Three's Company action" only to have them start tearing at his stomach. Blade swooped in, saved his ass, and Scud had him remove the vampire's fangs, which Scud made a little art project out of.
He started hanging out with Blade then since he wanted to find a way to repay the guy. Scud fixed up his car, weapons, security system - anything that made Blade happy since he was giving the guy a place to crash and keeping him safe. Three months later, Damaskino and the bloodpack tracked him down and said they wanted help to take advantage of Blade. Scud was torn but they knew he used to be a familiar and threatened him. So he ended up getting the tattoo on his inner lip to show he was one of their familiars and let them breech his security one night.
From there, everything just spiraled. Whistler and Blade working with the bloodpack, the hybrids, and then...the bomb. Scud's not quite sure what happened after the bomb went off. He just knows he woke up outside with his head throbbing and seeing light in his eyes.
