pyramid_dares In all perspective, Sora should’ve been angry at him. Riku had been the one to easily fall to the darkness, and he had betrayed their friendship by siding with the enemy.
But this was Sora; Sora couldn’t stay mad at a friend. Once they had gotten back to the islands after their second adventure (for the boys, it still felt more like their first seeing as neither had gone home), Kairi continually reminded him that Sora was not mad, but even so, he never knew what to feel.
Sora was, in a sense, the light to his dark - the only thing that really kept him going through the year when he was trapped in eternal night. But even so, he felt almost as if he was betraying Sora.
Maybe this was why once they got home from the islands that he enjoyed staying out in the rain, even if only to collect his thoughts. He thought it to be a pretty cliché way of helping himself, but it worked. The rain did not play favorites; drops equally fell to his head in their only strange way of trying to cleanse his soul. His parents did warn him to stop standing in the rain -that he would eventually get sick -but Riku only ignored them and continued on what he believed to be some sort of ritual.
So it wasn’t much of a surprise when he awoke one morning, only to have his parents and Sora peering down to him, their expressions on their face similar in worry. Both his parents fretted about how their son was changing so rapidly, and they didn’t know what to do, but Sora -Sora -was able to gently shove them out of the room and shut the door behind them.
Riku turned his head onto his pillow, closing his eyes and grateful for the cool fabric, when Sora’s soft voice reached his ears. “I’m not mad at you,” the brunet admitted, shrugging at the exhausted teen. Riku cracked an eye open and rolled over to ask him what he meant, but Sora only continued. “Really. Sure, you fought alongside Maleficent. But later, you also fought alongside King Mickey. You fought alongside Ansem the Wise in order to help restore my memories. And even if I forgot what actually happened that year…” He gave a smile before shrugging his shoulders again. “It’s been too long since I should’ve thanked you for saving me, even if it put you into trouble.”
Riku only smiled before his eye caught the light onside the window. The sun was shining through, bright as anything. He chuckled before sitting up and staring Sora, who smiled back, in the eye.
Sora was the pure sunshine to his poisoned rain.
