Summary: Riku didn't want things to go like this...
“What…did you say?”
Sora blinked and looked over to Riku, who had suddenly jumped out of his seat at the lunch table in what he would assume to be surprise. Little did he actually know was it wasn’t surprise -more like horror. But nevertheless, the brunette blinked before looking over to Kairi. “I said… we’re going out.”
“Riku, are you alright?” Kairi asked, removing her hand from Sora’s to place a hand on Riku’s forehead. Not meaning to, Riku accidently jumped back, almost stumbling over his feet as he stared at them in surprise.
“I’m…fine.” He shook his head before looking away. He had realized that half of the cafeteria was currently staring at him in curiosity, wondering what in the world the normally silent teen could be fretting about. Riku closed his eyes and placed his hands on his forehead; he just needed a place to think and be alone…
Realizing his situation, he reached down, grabbed his backpack, and quickly rushed (sprinted would be the appropriate verb, but with the mass of people that always were in the cafeteria in his way, it was an impossible task) out of the room, not saying a word of explanation to neither Sora nor Kairi.

The next day at lunch, Sora thought he would simply see Riku again, but when he didn’t, he did not worry as much. The second day he didn’t show up, Sora had forsaken lunch in order to find his close friend. Seeing as they had a grade difference between the two of them, they didn’t have many classes together, so lunch was really the only time they could see each other in the school day. However, Sora knew something was horribly wrong after he had called Riku’s house for the past two days and his mother had informed him that the silver haired teen was still out. Riku never stayed out late, and he had faithfully (every night since they had returned home from the second journey) had been around to pick up the phone when Sora called, even if it was just to hear the brunette whine about homework.
So when Sora found Riku in the library (and it wasn’t like he was reading or doing work. Nope, all he was doing was staring out the window, noting the scenery outside almost as if he was trying to study it), he had a bone to pick with him.
Riku jumped slightly when Sora had slammed his hand against the library table; he had already tried calling Riku’s name three times to no avail.
“We missed you in lunch yesterday, Kairi and I,” Sora attempted to begin, sitting opposite of Riku and giving the teen a smile.
Barely realizing that Sora was sitting, Riku cast a glance up to the clock and silently cursed himself. It was 11 A.M. and lunch would just be starting, for him at least. Deciding to play it cool, Riku shrugged and went back to staring outside. “Sorry.”
Sora frowned. Sure, Riku had become much quieter after they had returned, but he hadn’t been like this in such a long time… perhaps what he had said a few days ago? “Riku… are you mad?” The silver haired teen glanced over to Sora, before shaking his head, but Sora narrowed his eyes. “Don’t lie. You disappeared after I said I was dating Kairi. Does…” he paused and bit the inside of his cheek. He didn’t want to be separated between his two close friends, but he did want to know the truth. “Does the fact that I’m dating Kairi bother you?”
Only to people who knew Riku exceptionally well once he had come back (basically only Sora, Kairi, and more than likely, King Mickey) would be able to tell when Riku’s emotions changed drastically, seeing as he had learned to not show his emotions. So, when Sora noted the slightest widening of Riku’s eyes and the fact that his eyebrows raised a hair, he was more than ready to stop the silver haired teen from running away when Riku had jumped up. “Can’t you just answer?” Sora asked, glad his voice did not betray what he was feeling and didn’t come out nearly as much as a whine as he was afraid it would.
“No, I’m not jealous,” Riku muttered, keeping his eyes focused on the bookshelves. “Sora, if you could, let me go. I have a project to work on.”
“No!” Riku, along with another student that was working in the library stared at Sora. However, unlike the other student (who simply glared at the two and continued working), Riku closed his eyes, refusing to look over to Sora. Said brunette bit his lip angrily before tugging on Riku’s arm. “You haven’t been doing anything, so don’t lie to me! We’re best friends! Why can’t you tell me what’s wrong?”
Riku gritted his teeth, before finally opening his eyes and staring down to the brunette. What he was caused him to snap: Sora looked as if he was trying to keep a balance between whether or not he should cry or if he should summon his Keyblade and hurt Riku, just to make him talk. Riku let out a soft groan, before grabbing Sora by the collar and dragging him back into the bookshelves, glad for once in a school day that most of the students had decided to not go to the library today.
“Riku?” There was a faint sniffle sound and Riku shook his head, determined to finish what he started. “What -?”
He cut off when Riku finally stopped and let him go. Sora blinked and looked up to Riku’s face, realizing that the silver haired teen had water filling up his eyes. Well, that was certainly something he’d never seen before. “Riku, what…?”
“I am jealous,” Riku interrupted Sora, awkwardly rubbing his eyes with his sleeve. “Kairi’s one of my best friends, but I can’t help but feel jealous of her...! And if you still can’t tell, then I guess I should be glad I can hide my feelings better than you…”
Sora tilted his head, and opened his mouth to try and speak, but it suddenly hit him. “Wait…you … like me?” he whispered, his eyes widening.
Riku snorted and shook his head. “You have always been a bit dense Sora.” Sora frowned, about to counter that, when Riku continued. “I love you. Go ahead. Tell me I’m sick; tell me I’m disgusting. Tell me something, but…” He covered his face with his hand, but Sora would still see the influx of tears rolling down his cheeks. “Just don’t hate me?” he added, his voice soft. “Please?”
Sora rolled his eyes at his best friend before quickly reaching his arms out and enveloping him in a hug. “You goof…” He sighed and shook his head, noting that his shoulder was becoming increasingly wet, but not caring all the much. “I love you too…”
They both knew that the type of love Riku meant was not at all what Sora meant, but still. Riku gave a watery smile and Sora continued to hug Riku as if the rest of the world meant absolutely nothing to him.
