Author's Note: Yes, this is more of an AU. Um...hope it's allowed. :D But, its Axel/Kairi, a pairing I've never thought about but I think it's pretty interesting. :D ANYWAY. Merry [belated as heck] Christmas,
zanisha ! :D Thanks for being an awesome person, and I hope you have/had a good day! :D (and, while I'm author's note-ing, hope you think this is okay~)

Neither of them should be here; they know this, but they simply look up at each other, grim smiles on their faces.

Axel is the first to speak. “Aren’t your friends going to get suspicious?” he asks, not truly caring, but still wanting to know her answer anyway.

Kairi replies, her own smile just as mocking; he almost scowls for that. “Sora won’t notice, and if Riku does…well, I think he just wants me to be happy,” she offers, placing a hand on his cheek. “Isn’t it more of a problem if you were to get caught?”

Lowering his head, Axel doesn’t reply to this. It is true, if he were to get caught being with her -with anyone, actually - those from the Organization would wring his neck. “We’re not supposed to love,” he mumbles aloud, more to himself than to the girl, but she responds anyway, giving him a tight squeeze that could mean so much more. And it would, if they weren’t being forced to express any form of their love in a back alleyway.

Axel glances down to Kairi, who’s acting with a wisdom beyond her years that he’s never known, and leans down, pressing his lips onto hers for a passionate kiss -only to have her gently push him away. “If you were to get caught…” she mutters, leaning her head against his chest.

He restrains from scowling at the girl before running a hand through her scarlet hair and letting out a sigh.

It’s been so many nights that they’ve met like this, hiding out in the shadows, as though the rest of the world didn’t exist. Axel feels himself growing wary, almost angry that he was only able to show what he felt in this cowardly way; angry that the girl he fell in love with was forced to grow up and take responsibility for his immature actions.

“I love you.” He glances down to see Kairi staring up to him, her eyes filled with determination -for what? he asks himself - and a sad smile on his lips.

He can’t reply to this -they both already know the answer anyway -and he simply holds her tighter, wishing this moment would never end.

Unbeknownst to both of them, in the distance stands a boy with blond hair and empty blue eyes. He is the one who follows the rules, and he is the one who makes others follow them as well.

It is four days later. Axel has been taken away by the Organization and is currently being held at knife point by their youngest member, whilst the oldest stands, watching. “You know our code, Axel. You’ve been with us long enough,” Xemnas speaks, his tone uncaring.

“I know.” Axel closes his eyes, thinking back to the last time he could’ve held Kairi in his arms, trying to remember every detail about the girl before the inevitable happened.

“Very well then. Roxas?” Xemnas glances down to the boy who’s currently holding the knife at Axel.

Roxas narrows his eyes up to Axel and shakes his head. “You know, if you’d only killed her per your own hand, you could’ve lived.” They had been close friends before this had all happened.

Axel smirks down to the boy. “I’ve been here longer; I know that rule, blondie.”

Roxas grits his teeth before doing the job Xemnas set forth for him to do.

The last thing Axel sees is Kairi’s broad smile before everything turns black.
