“The Keybearer and the Princess of Heart…That’s gotta hurt, huh?”
Riku gritted his teeth at the statement, but kept his head lowered in pain. It wasn’t as though he thought the man wasn’t dealing with fire - he just couldn’t have imagine how much it would’ve hurt. He let out a breath that shook slightly before glaring back up to the eighth member of Organization XIII.
“What of it?” he spat in response, his eye twitching. “They’re both my friends! Something you wouldn’t understand, seeing as you’re heartless.” Riku gave a shout as the man drove one of the chakrams into his shoulder, his eyes showing no emotion, but his mouth giving a small smirk.
“Sure, we have no hearts,” Axel responded, digging the spike deeper into Riku’s shoulder. Riku fell to the ground, his face covered in sweat as he tried to not give off another cry of pain, but damnit, that hurt! “But I have a best friend. His name is Roxas, remember?” The next thing Riku knew, he was being flung across the room before slamming into the wall and crumpling onto the floor. “You gave him up to DiZ for your own selfish reasons.”
Riku slowly climbed to his knees, trying to ignore how much his body was in pain and how much it was shaking. “It was to save Sora,” he hissed, narrowing his eyes. “The Somebody of your best friend.”
“Uh-uh.” Axel rolled his eyes before approaching Riku and kneeling in front of the silver haired teen. “You’re certainly an interesting catch.” He grabbed Riku by the hair and smiled. “I mean, how many of your friends have this color hair? Must be popular with the ladies.”
Jerking out of his grip, Riku almost stumbled to the ground as his body screamed in protest. He bit his cheek and straightened himself, mostly using the wall as a support to stand up. Axel shrugged and stood as well, his smirk almost malevolent as he tilted his head. “I mean, that’s probably not good enough, seeing as you’re in love with the Keybearer, right?”
Riku’s eyes widened and a blow to the stomach forced him onto his knees again. “How…” he gasped, before coughing violently. Axel did not move to help nor hinder him. “How did you … What are you talking about?!” Riku asked, his eyes all but giving away the truth.
The redhead smiled down to him, running a hand through his lightly blood matted hair. “What does it matter?” he asked before clenching the hair beneath his hand and bringing the boy to eye level and ignoring Riku’s shouts of pain. “It’s true, isn’t it? ‘His eyes don’t lie,’ or some bullshit like that.”
A quick glance in Riku’s eye certainly told no lies-he was pissed at Axel, but still couldn’t do a thing about it. Axel scoffed at him before letting the hair go and smirking as Riku fell to the ground. “What did I do to you, you bastard?” Riku shouted, his battered form barely breathing. “What did I do to you?!”
Axel rolled his eyes before kicking Riku so he would lay on his back, able to look into his eyes. “You allowed my best friend to be captured,” he muttered, his face no longer attempting to pretend any sort of emotion. “You gave up the Nobody for the Somebody, although Roxas is worth ten times what Sora is.”
“That’s a lie,” Riku retorted, a grim smile passing his face. “Nothing can beat Sora’s light.”
“I said nothing about light, did I?” Axel rolled his eyes again before crouching next to the boy. Riku moved his hand in a pathetic attempt to stop Axel, but he simply swatted it away and leaned over his face. “You’re not like us, but you’re not like him. It’s pretty obvious that you’ve been doused in the darkness.” He raised his eyebrow. “Why are you still fighting for the Keybearer if you can control the darkness?”
Riku said nothing; the only thing that was heard was his inconsistent breathing. Axel finally grew tired of waiting and grabbed him by his hair again, prepared to ask the question again.
“Because he’s my best friend and I love him.” Riku’s breathing was still heavy and he was still bleeding profusely, but his eyes were sharp, staring into Axel’s.
“Really…?” Axel smirked again before pulling Riku into a short and entirely unwelcome kiss. Riku was too pained (and too shocked) to move, but luckily for him, it was short. “That’s cute.”
Axel dropped Riku again and stood, about to walk away from the silver haired teen and set to let him bleed to death. He paused before shaking his head, rummaging in his cloak, and dropping a potion just out of Riku’s reach. “I’m an asshole, but I’m not that heartless,” he muttered, mostly to himself, as he teleported out of the room.
Riku had to force himself to drag his battered body to the potion instead of letting himself seep into this coldness. After drinking down the potion, he fell back onto the ground, allowing the darkness of unconsciousness flood into his mind.
