When Sora asked Riku about experiencing the thrill of his life, Riku expected Sora to drag him to another world and meet up with another set of friends. Besides, Sora was Riku’s best friend - meaning that Riku had to go. So even though Sora was dragging Riku out of bed at five a.m., Riku didn’t mind - that much, at least.
However, what Riku didn’t expect was to be clinging so hard onto the sides of Sora’s parent’s car that he knew that his fingerprints would be there forever as the brunet navigated the empty parking lot.
Sora may have known how to drive a Gummi Ship, but a car? Riku hoped that he’d live to see the light of day.
“It’s not that hard!” Sora grinned, turning the wheel a bit too hard and almost crashing into a lamp post. Riku’s left eye twitched. “I mean, the steering is a bit different than the Gummi Ship…”
“Couldn’t you’ve gotten Tidus to go with you?” Riku’s voice jumped an octave as the car almost crashed into a brick wall. Best friends or not, he knew that his life would flash in front of his eyes sooner than later. “I mean, he already got his license so this escapade would be legal…”
Silence came from the driver’s seat, and a moment later, the car stopped. Riku pried his fingers away from the door (yep, that mark wouldn’t be going anywhere soon) and glanced over at Sora, who was staring at the wheel with a frown.
“You…haven’t gotten your license yet,” Sora mumbled, drumming his fingers against the wheel. “And Kairi’s normally busy with her schoolwork. And since you’re so busy getting ready for college, I want to help you and be able to drive you places.” He frowned again before glancing up to Riku and giving him a small smile. “I just want to help you out, Riku.”
Riku chuckled softly to himself before leaning back in the chair for the first time (before, he was so nervous that they’d crash that he had been sitting up). The birds chirped softly in the distance, and he closed his eyes with a sigh. “Sora…you help me by just standing by me. You didn’t have to do this just for me.”
Giving a grin, Sora nodded and turned to face the dashboard again. “I still want to be able to help you out when needed. Besides,” he laughed softly. “Out of the three of us, one of us has to know how to drive. So let’s go!” Sora put the car back into drive and stepped down onto the gas pedal.
Riku’s eyes shot open and he jumped up in his seat, gripping the car door in the same spot. “Sora! It’s five a.m. and no one’s out! Slow down!”
Sora just gave a quirky grin and continued to drive. Poor Riku didn’t know whether he’d survive into the next hour by the way Sora was going.
