Ian O'Conner of the fabulously mediocre USA Today step to the plate.

while i agree that isiah thomas is a terrible gm, brown still deserves much of the blame for the knicks abysmal season. ive followed the knick box scores for most of the season and seen a few games and the minutes are distributed so unevenly. Matt Barnes began the season as a starter and after 2 weeks he was off the team. Brown has such a huge ego that he can't except coaching a mediocre team (which is the ceiling for the knicks) so he has put on this whole display trying new players every game so he can have the excuse of "I tried everything with this roster and look what happened". He could have easily put together a consistent rotation with this team and snuck into the weak east as an 8 seed. But Brown is too big of a headcase to do that. You see what he did with the pistons. Sure he led them to a championship, but in hindsight, what was it that pushed the pistons over the top? Larry Brown or Rasheed Wallace? The pistons had a worse record than they had the year before at the point that dumars acquired Wallace. Then after ( ... )

I agree that the blame goes Thomas then Brown then Dolan who is the owner. Brown is a good coach for a veteran team and a terrible coach for a young team like the Knicks. Like you said, he basically has been tinkering with the lineup in an attempt to cover his ass, so he can say "I tried everything". He's overated as a coach and he's arrogant and I'm sure he's planning on riding Isiah out of town so that he can have complete control.

There just seems to be so little common sense on the Knicks these days. You hire Brown to coach a team of non defense playing runners and gunners? The Knicks might be mediocre as a team that scores 105 a game and gives up 104. But they aren't a half-court team, not as presently constructed.
