Uh. I'm not trying to help. I'm explaining that having a not-all-inclusive "folk" and talking about it all the time and excluding people isn't cool and that everyone contributes in their own way, shape, and form.
I just went back and counted the number of St. Francisville-related posts, or posts that have anything more more than a passing mention of non-LA Tech friends, in my LJ. By the time I got to November, I had maybe five.
'Gumbo Folk' isn't exclusive in the way you make it sound like. I use the term 'Gumbo Folk' when I mean 'really cool friends that I spent my pre-college years with and would greatly enjoy keeping contact with for the rest of my life'. No where I could state that everytime I wish to speak about said group, I find it much easier to just say 'Gumbo Folk'.

Good analogy, though. Very suitable.
