Today's writer craft class was the most stressful class I've ever been in. I didn't want to share my poem, I knew it wasn't any good, but I had to anyways. Not only that, but I had to sit quietly while everyone took turns telling me what they didn't like. I really would have appreciated the comments before I handed it in, but people either told me ( Read more... )

Part of writing is being able to take critisizm, especially face-to-face with someone. It's the crappiest, most unglamorous part of it, but that's what happens.

Maybe no one commented before hand because they didn't have to... people are lazy that way.

If you're talking about the poem you were writing in Art before, I really did like it. I liked the story (descriptive thing?) you were writing the powm from, too...

Being able to take constructive criticism is a good quality, especially for a writer. Writing is very personal, and people interpret things their own way. I think you're making more of this than there really is. It's your writing, if you're not happy with it, only you can really change it, and what other people think shouldn't really matter during the writing process because then it turns into something that isn't entirely yours. (sometimes) Besides, I was in the class, and we all liked your poem, it wasn't perfect, none of them were, by any means. You need mroe confidence in your writing, you knew what the class was about when you chose to take it, so I don't see why it's all such a big suprise and so difficult.
Really, if you think about it, we're all going through the same thing, and seriously, you worry way too much, so lighten up, not everyone's going to like what you write, as long as you do. And if you don't... don't rely on what other people say to make it 'better'.

if you feel like an idiot taking critism on stuff you've written, maybe WRITER'S craft wasn't the best choice. keep in mind the rest of the class also has to have their stuff picked apart as well, so you're on equal grounds. you also told me you had a rteally high mark, so obviously it's not like you're a bad writer or anything. keep your head up as long as you're trying your best.

I just didn't like the way it happened. I can take criticism, believe me, I can, but I couldn't handle sitting there, not being able to say anything, feeling so incredibly helpless while the negative comments kept coming. The thing is I felt powerless, and to me thats the worst goddamned feeling in the world.
