When I was still in band though, the clarinet section tuned to the first oboist with a B (which is...concert C... I think?). Before we had an oboist, and I was in a lower level band, we tuned with a C. (This is assuming John's using a B flat clarinet)

I do remember we usually tuned to B, maybe B flat? Wow, it's been too long. :(
(And yes, it's a B-flat Clarinet. That actually becomes an important plot point later on, heh!)
