Mars is written in 5/4 time (think the Mission: Impossible theme), and this contributes to the aggressive sound of the piece. It also opens with an eerie direction of col legno battuto, where the string players strike

This is a wonderful beginning to the pieces, chaotic and yet powerful to go along with the music. The ending to this was wonderful, as both Kirk and the reader realize just whose last moments he seemed to be experiencing. And this line:

Never did he imagine that it would be this painful to be alive.

Very poignant, and true. You've done a wonderful job here, and the idea of writing fic with a series of musical movements as the backdrop is wonderfully creative!

Wow, this was incredibly intense! I listened to "Mars" as I read, and it was amazing how some of the scenes coincided with the music. Nice descriptions and great twist at the end! I was glad how it wasn't just "a dream" but at least some of it had been real.
