'pedantic'

Today I used the word 'pedantic' correctly in a sentence (I know this from looking this 'big' word up on dictionary.com). I have no idea where I would have heard this word or in what context I would know how to use it correctly. Does anyone remember using language like this around me?

I use the word not infrequently, but I don't recall ever using it around you.

On Monday night I saw a kid in a Spider-Man custume. Moments later, across the street, I saw another. I told the second kid (who was at most seven) that his doppleganger was across the street. I say, start 'em young on big words. :)
