Playing Sims 2 in Windows 8

Mar 07, 2013 07:58

I had to upgrade my monster computer to Windows 8 the other day and I have successfully installed about half of my EPs so far. Not only are they working, but they are working better than they were under XP, with one problem, and one problem only: the chemistry/lightning bolts have disappeared.

I have taken a break in the installation process because I finally bought Seasons after all these years and want to play with my new toy. :-) Also, I think I'd like to get Bon Voyage as well and don't have  it yet and I think I might get a better deal ordering the CD over Amazon rather than buying it directly from EA.

Anyway, the key to getting it to work is you must run the game from a shortcut on your desktop and set the compatibility to Windows XP SP2 - do not set it  to SP3 like people have been suggesting. I found this out from the Microsoft service tech who sold me Windows 8. The game runs better than it ever did with XP.

I documented everything I've done so far on the Yuku site and really don't feel like going through the hassle of moving the pictures again (I've had two posts reject so far trying to do that), so if you'd like to see what happened step by step, check it out at:
