Yeah, that University of Phoenix seems shady. More and more schools are offering degrees through distance learning. I'm going to have to do some more research.

Most colleges offer distance learning.

I take my Harvard Extension classes online. It's really convenient for trying to get a degree while working full time.

For me it's great because going to class was 90% of the battle for me...I can do the work, but lost points for absences or assignments that we got in class.

This way, I can just go home, change into some pajamas and watch my lectures online. PRofessors and TA's are available by email if you need help. My java TA actually set up online "office hours" over yahoo messenger. There are also optional sections if I felt that I needed help (they started later in the evening so I can make it in). But I didnt even use the sections because the chat and email were so helpful :o)

You also have the option of attending any of the lectures if you have time.

I love it :o)

Sounds like a pretty good deal, but I guess it really depends on the school and the professors. Are the chats mandatory or can you just watch the lectures and do the work?

the chats are optional :o)

it's just nice if you're stuck on a problem set and need a quick answer from the comfort of your own home :o)

This semester I'm taking an electronic music production class. I was going to take a web development class but it's only offered for non-credit or graduate credit *shakes fist*

so now i have to find a second class...thanks for reminding me, i should really get that done today :o)

you should look into Harvard Extension...some of their classes are VERY expensive (up to $2000) but a lot of the courses cost around $600 (about $75-100 more than a class at U-Mass Boston)

It's tough. I'd prefer to be in a classroom because I like the interaction and meeting people. But, I'm not sure that I could dedicate the necessary time.
