MOD ANNOUNCEMENT

Nov 03, 2008 15:53

Although 'rank' has always been on the applications for the Victoria II, the linked materials on the subject have never been particularly helpful, and deciding what rank your character should be is very difficult from the provided materials. The recent spate of high ranking officers has made the mod team decide that the rank structure needs to be a little more uniform.

The Ranks in TST are now as follows: Sub-lieutenant, Lieutenant, Major, Lieutenant Commander, Commander, Captain, Admiral.

Someone fresh out of the Academy will be a Sub-Lieutenant. In the event of extreme heroism they could expect to be promoted in as little as three to six months (although this would be very rare and would require extreme heroism) or as much as two years.

Military personnel after that point can expect a promotion approximately every three years after that point. Promotions may be made early in cases of extreme heroism, but this would be rare.

Please consider your character's age when determining what rank they should be. If the character has a very valiant history, or someone in high places looking out for them, they may be a higher rank than their age would indicate, but they will most likely be promoted in an average fashion.

A note to people who have previously been captains of ships: Just because your character held the position of 'captain' does not mean they needed to also hold the rank of captain, they could easily have been as low as a Lieutenant Commander if they were in charge of a smaller airship.

If you are on the Victoria II, you may not hold a rank higher than 'Commander'. The First Officer on the ship is a Commander and he is the second highest ranking officer on the ship, no one other than the Captain may outrank him.

If you hold a job as a cook, seamen, mechanic, blacksmith, shipwright, powder monkey or cabin boy your character may be but is not required to be, enlisted. Enlisted ranks are as follows: Seaman, Petty Officer and Chief Petty Officer. You are a Seaman for roughly your first three years, Petty officer for your next seven, and Chief Petty Officer beyond that. (in the real military there are many ranks here, but this is a gross simplification)

Please take a look at these guidelines and make an honest assessment of what your character's rank should be. If you are on a military ship, please post here with what rank you feel your character should have.

If the rank is outside of a normal promotion scheme, please explain what acts of heroism or patronage led to the character being promoted before they should have been.

If your character holds a position on a Ivonian Military vessel other than Passenger or approved Cabin Boys they must be a military officer or enlisted. If your character has been approved without a military history in their background, you may make a change to their history without Mod approval.
