Hellooooo~ Mia here, bringing you a dose of completely innocent, totally non-evil plotting opportunities she would love to have your muses partake in, especially because this is definitely not a part of Aizen's plans to take over the continent.
No, really, this isn't part of his world domination thing. He's doing this on the side. But hey, it doesn't mean we can't have fun anyway.
1. Playing with probability for fun and profit
Once in the vicinity of the race venue, your characters might find themselves approached by certain well-dressed gentlemen asking, very politely and discreetly, whether Sir or Madam would be interested in heightening the excitement of watching the races by attaching some sort of predictive challenge to it. Or something like that. What they mean, of course, is whether you would like to bet on the outcome.
It's not uncommon for the total amount of money involved in the gambling surrounding a sporting event to far exceed the sum total of all the prizes at stake in that event. For this, we're perfectly happy to be your bookies and offer you the best odds for win, place, and show bets. This basically means that you can choose to bet not only on who will be the overall winner; you can also bet that the chosen pilot will finish either first, second, or third.
Mechanics:
♠ Bets can be placed in either Ivonan or Vohemaro currency, though I'd like to note that the exchange rate the house uses isn't exactly 1:1. In light of recent events we regard the franc as having appreciated a bit more than the dubloon, although Mia hasn't calculated the exchange rate the house would use just yet (please to note: this is not the real exchange rate; this is the exchange rate based on how Aizen would view the two currencies). Payoffs are rendered in tiny gold bars. And yes, gold is heavy, so if you bet a lot of money and happen to win... bring a wheelbarrow.
♠ Payment is made as soon as one places the bet; winnings may be collected from the designated bookie an hour after the race.
♠ Minimum bet is two francs/two dubloons. You can bet any amount higher than this as long as it's in multiples of two.
♠ We're using pari-mutuel betting here. Odds will depend on how much is wagered on a certain outcome. If you bet on an unpopular candidate and that candidate wins, you stand to gain more than if you bet on a favorite.
♠ Reply here with your characters and your bets (and amount bet, if you'd like) questions and expressions of interest, if you'd like to participate either as a bettor or as a (cough) bookmaker. Or contact me in chat. I've been sleepy a lot because of my allergies, so if I don't reply that means I'm probably napping, but I do read all my messages. hikarunai on AIM or ephemere on Gmail is where I'm at.
♠ Multiple bets are encouraged.
♠ As we take the privacy of our clients very seriously, confidentiality is our watchword here. The house will not be releasing any details regarding the identities of the bettors or the bets made (except for stating the odds).
♠ No, we don't know who's going to win either. No, we're not going to attempt to rig the outcome of the race. This is very straightforward, not only because Aizen has no intention of sabotaging the race but also because Mia can't handle anything more complex. It's not the payoff he's after, anyway.
aaaand an edit: ♠ If you need help with the betting system or would like explanations, please feel free to ask in IM. I promise I will try to make sense.
cousin of edit: ♠ A separate post will go up for the bets once there's a roster. Odds will change as bets come in. Starting odds are all 1:1:1:1..., and they will vary depending on how much is bet on whom. Fun with math!
2. Being cryptic for fun and profit
Members and current applicants of the Damocles Club might soon find themselves in possession of invitations for a talk to be given at the House of Dion, Bellcius sometime next month. The invitations have been letterpress printed on heavy linen paper, white on black, and include the name of the speaker (Professor Aeolia B. Heisenberg), the date and time of the talk, and the topic: "Fire Out of the Ashes: the Evolution and Development of Magical Technology in a Post-Terrorist Era". There is a small card one may use to RSVP or request for a transcript of the talk in case one is unable to attend.
3. Other useless things (read: traumatizing lolis for fun and profit)
I won't be able to create a mingle log for Uni once the race starts, since she's not a mingle kind of person. However, I would very much like to develop more CR with her, especially with characters from other ships. Please let me know if you'd like to do something during the races.
Some things:
♣ She is very polite and usually does not say more than she needs to. She does have quite a few buttons, though, that you can feel free to try pressing.
♣ Because she has no sense of self-preservation whatsoever-- I mean, because she's not very good at hiding certain things, it's easy to mark her origins at first sight. She's Ivonan born and bred and doesn't try to act otherwise.
♣ She has a tattoo of a flower on her left cheek, just under her eye. Those in the know when it comes to Bellcius's corporate politics might recognize the symbol as the logo of Giglionero Corp.
♣ Because healers are fun when they're exhausted: people who are prone to injuries and/or are accident magnets are very, very welcome.
♣ She likes flowers.
I think that's all for now. Please feel free to ping with suggestions, questions, anything! (Also Aizen is totally up to logging at the races, but will not be up for sabotage, sry. But he hasn't said that the minions aren't allowed to perpetrate all sorts of nefarious acts, so...)
