Characters: Hijikata Toshirou (age 7) & Tohru Adachi (age 9) [mayovice & fool_in_reverse]
Content: The (rather accidental) meeting of two very very different kids.
Setting: Bellcius
Time: Sixteen Seventeen years ago.
Warnings: Shounen tarding of the idiot kind, kid violence, some swearing, Adachi being an idiot.

One.

Two.

Three.

That was the number of steps that lead to the door of Tohru's new home. The nine year old was counting them each time, hopping down them one by one only to run back up seconds after reaching the sidewalk. This he kept on doing-one, two, three-again and again-one, two, three-muttering the numbers under his breath each time.

He wasn't doing it because it was particularly interesting or fun. On the contrary, it was quite boring. But it wasn't like there was anything else to do. And he figures maybe eventually, if he makes it to the sidewalk enough times, he'll be brave enough to take more than one step on it.

"Three."

...but not this time.

"One..."

The usual sights and sounds of the main streets greeted him as Toshirou walked down the by-now familiar pavements and walkways of the place, looking quite disinterestedly at the whole scene. While it had been pretty interesting in the beginning of his abrupt newfound freedom - he would spend days just sitting and running along the streets back then - by now it had become all but the usual fare for the young boy. Just something to be taken granted, like how all the other adults would; it was nothing special... just something to see everyday, like every other day.

Today though, a different sight had caught the child's eye: there was another kid on the sidewalk - or to be more accurate, on the steps of the house near the sidewalk - and he was doing nothing but, well... but just going up and down the steps endlessly. Toshirou couldn't deny the fun in that (it just was hopping up and down and counting over and over like no tomorrow), but like all kids his age, was far too curious for his own good and couldn't help but wonder just what he ( ... )
