Adachi needed to get the hell off the ship as fast as possible. The slime was not helping his headache from hell and if he didn't get off and away from it all, he might just snap.

The fresh air was already well received and for a moment, Adachi allowed himself to believe that it actually made his headache a liiiiittle better. He looked around, trying to figure out what he'd do until the slime was taken care of, then saw Souji.

Now what the heck was he doing out here?

Deciding he hadn't checked up on his favorite (haha) little detective wannabe in ages, he snuck up behind the boy, making sure his footsteps were light and unnoticeable. Once close enough he leaned over a bit to see what Souji was doing... and read over his shoulder. He quirked an eyebrow.

What in the world kind of writing was this...?

But the more he read the more his smile grew. Oh god, this stuff was bad. Hilariously bad. Finally he couldn't hold it in anymore and inadvertently alerted Souji to his presence with a snort.

Souji jerked in surprise, his glasses slipping off his nose. But after a moment of panic (ItwasaShadowhewasdead!!) he relaxed, tipping his head back to smile sheepishly at an upside-down Adachi.

"Ah, Adachi-san! You spooked me."

Even though he thought the detective was a bit of a dork (and with friends like Yosuke, he was an expert) he honestly liked the man. He was earnest and a good influence on his uncle, and made sure Dojima took care of himself at work.

Adachi grinned his (derpiest) most apologetic smile and rubbed the back of his neck. "Ah! Sorry about that. I wanted to see how long it would take you to notice. Keep you on your toes you know?"

"So whatcha reading anyways?" he asked nosily as he craned his head around to try and get a good look at the cover.

Adachi liked Souji too. Thought he was a good kid, albeit a little weird.

...when he kept his nose out of places it didn't belong at least.

Keep me on my toes for what? He though vaguely, but let the thought flit away. It was likely just an excuse for teasing him or something.

"The Witch Detective." He replied, holding it up. It looked like a book that should have been in the hands of a girl looking for some fantasy love story, not a generally more serious boy like Souji. But the teen did a lot of things someone his age and station normally wouldn't be seen dead doing.

Yosuke really had to admit, all this slime seriously just just getting so very... ungh. At least the radio room was mostly cleared and save from slime in general, but it was still going to take a good while before all the slime could be properly cleared, judging by the amount that was all all over the ship. Man, how in the world did so much slime manage to just appear like that in the first place? It seriously was kind of... ew ( ... )

It was already inching towards afternoon, and now that his conversation with Adachi was done, he had really started getting back into his book.

His luck was weird that way, with Yosuke popping up next.

Normally he'd be torn in stopping his reading. He loved Yosuke like a brother, but even the other knew that when Souji got going it was hard to drag his nose back to reality, even to be socal. But with this book it was a blessing.

"...abusing my mind, that's what." He replied with a slight scowl, closing the book and offering it to Yosuke to look at.

Yosuke blinked a few times at that - he had seen Souji and his books before more often than not back in school at Inaba, but this was certainly one of the few times that the silver-haired teen had offered to show one of his books to him. Picking up the book from his friend's hands, the brunette looked at the title (Witch Detective? That sounded pretty... bad already) before he opened the book to glance over the first few pages, and then further into the next few chapters.

...

"...why the hell are you even reading this?!" came the almost-screech from Yosuke as he pretty much just dropped the book in shock at the last passage he read. That was just... just... ew. Just. Yeah. No.

"Daisuke gave it to me. He picked it up on accident and he knew I read." He sighed, picking the book back up and sweeping a little of the dirt off.

"I don't think he realized how cruel he was being. But I can't stand not finishing a book." Having it sit on his shelf, undone, drove him to distraction. For awhile it was being used as a stand for his water-fish tank.

...So Sekai had wanted to step outside a minute. Her legs were starting to grow better with time, and with that, she could lean against a cane now, and her walking had grown more steady, more straight.

Everything had happened so fast. The Captain, everything...this wasn't what she'd signed up for when she wanted to join a Mercenary ship, but this didn't upset her at all. She loved it. And really?

It was the most fun she'd had in years.

...

"Huh? Souji?"

Yeah, that was Souji sitting over there.

Wait. He was reading?

She slinked closer, trying to get a good look at the words on the page.

He didn't notice her at first, but Adachi had made him a little more careful. So he only straightened up a little before turning around to greet her.

"Sekai-san! How are you feeling?" He noticed that she seemed to be walking better at least. If he thought it would help he would have offered to cast Dia on her, for the pain. but in the end magic could only do so much.

With the ship so nasty, who wouldn't want to be out of it and on the ground? Orihime couldn't remember the last time she'd actually been on actual solid ground instead of a deck, and now that the ship was becoming clearer and Pinky had someone else to keep an eye on her, she could go out and even take some azuki rolls with her.

Souji obviously had had a similar idea, except he'd brought what looked like The Witch Detective instead. She had to admit she was a little surprised to see him reading it... maybe it was a cover for something more embarrassing? Though what would be more embarrassing for a young man his age to be caught reading (and still appropriate to read in public) than something like that? She had to go find out.

"Oh, hey, Seta-kun!" As she came up to him, she tried to subtly crane her neck over to see what it was, but was too far away.

[If she offers you one, they're not homemade, I promise.]

Souji blushed a little when he noticed what she was looking at, but there was no point hiding it. With a sigh he simply held it up for her to see.

"Hey, Orihime-san." He smiled sheepishly. "Caught me slacking off, huh?" He laughed a little, hoping she wouldn't hold his reading choice against him before noticing her food. Oh man... he should have brought a snack himself! He stared at the rolls for a long moment before jerking to his senses and smiling at her again.
