FOR THE WINNERS tidesnpc August 23 2010, 05:00:05 UTC
Dozens, if not hundreds of the little cakes were passed out, but only two of them had the winning charms. Who would the winners be? Only time would tell. The announcer and her assistants looked towards the crowd in anticipation (and one of them quietly went to find a doctor in case one of the pieces went down someone's gullet by mistake).

Adachi had hoped that, after the incident with that burlesque show the worst would be over for him this Hanami. He didn't think anything would go wrong if he decided to help himself to what was essentially free cake. And he sure didn't think he'd win anything.

Yet to his surprise, when he absentmindedly bit into his red cake he found something... hard.

He paused. No way?! The King's Scepter?!

But when he tried to pull the charm out his face became very, very white.

Utena really wasn't one for contests like this. She didn't need the attention, thank you very much, and was perfectly content to be a spectator. However, she had to admit, she was curious about who the winner would be. Besides, the food was usually pretty good, or so she heard.

So, she took one of the cakes and bit into it ...only to discover something hard. Her eyes widened in shock, and she spat the charm into her hand. Why, it was...no, that couldn't be right!

Oh no, what the hell was he going to do?! This was too embarrassing, there was no way he was going to accept this... "title". He had to figure out some way to get out of here and escape this. Maybe if he gave the crown to some pretty girl (someone who wasn't a whore of course) without anyone noticing he could...

"Hey look!" someone suddenly shouted, causing him to jump, "This guy's got the crown!"

That was when he noticed his first mistake: leaving the crown in plain view in the palm of his hand.

Shit.

Before too many people could excitedly surround him, he panicked and did what he did best.

He ran.

SPECTATORS tidesnpc August 23 2010, 05:01:06 UTC
As for the rest, well...the delicious cakes were a good consolation prize. The voices of the crowd were an excited buzz, subdued by the necessity of eating the cakes. Sighs of disappointment could be heard across the square as more and more realized that their cake was empty. Speculation spread through the crowd: if it wasn't their cake, whose was it?

Angel took her time with her cake. That was all she was here for, really; she had taken the crown once before. True, it was a gambler's fallacy to believe she wouldn't win again, but she was doubtful, all the same.

So she ate slowly, savoring the confection in the way the rest of the crowd wouldn't. Not the finest cake, given that they probably were focusing on quantity over quality, but still deliciously sweet and pleasantly fluffy.

Elsewhere in the crowd, shouts were going up, as the king and queen were found and pulled up where everyone could see-

...

...

...

Well, that was an unexpected turn of events. Smiling devilishly, Angel gave her best wolf whistle for the new queen.

Kaoru had been absorbed in her own cake, but looked up when Angel whistled. She turned her gaze over to the King and Queen being dragged up onto the stage.

"Do you know them?"

"Not the king, unfortunately. But the queen..."

She smiled broadly, making no effort to hide her amusement.

"... I could think of no one more deserving of this year's title than him."
