A warm laugh responded back. "I hate to disappoint you, Ichigo, but your boyfriend isn't in right now!"

Instead there was only Jean, hair tied up high upon her head and apron tied over her dress. However, rather than cooking, she was busy washing all the pots and pans they had used for dinner. And from the looks of things, she was nearly finished.

She paused to turn around and give Ichigo a welcoming smile. "But I don't suppose there's anything I can do for you, is there?"

His face turned bright red with the speed of a traffic light. Ichigo had to bite back the knee-jerk he's not my "boyfriend" reaction. Instead, what came out was something closer to "He's nnnnnnnnnngh. Uh. Hi, Jean."

Fighting back the uncomfortable blush on his face, Ichigo shoved his hands into his pockets. Sure, he was a little disappointed that Watanuki wasn't in there, but he was also really glad to see Jean. "It's good to see you. I'd nearly forgotten there were so many people I knew on this ship. How've you been?"

She couldn't help but laugh again. If teasing him like this was wrong, then she had no interest in being right.

"It's good to see you too, Ichigo. And I'm so glad you're here with us now." She paused, and then added with a tone of embarrassment, "I can't blame you for forgetting, though. This ship is so large that I still don't know everyone's name, and I'm always finding rooms I've never seen before!"

She pulled a pot out of the water, shook some of the droplets off, and then placed it upside-down on a towel to dry. "Oh, I've been fine! Say, as long as you're here, could you give me a hand with this?" She gestured further down on the counter, where more pots and pans were likewise sitting upside-down on towels. "Those ones should be dry now. Could you put them away for me?"

And as she plunged her hands in the sink to scrub the next pan, she asked in reply, "What about you? How have you been?"

Even if Ichigo had lost a lot of his insecurity about how other people perceived him, he was still easy enough to tease. Especially if you were someone who knew him well enough to pick targets like this new thing with Watanuki.

He glanced at the pots and pans. "Sure," he said. He had a vague idea of where they went, and if he guessed wrong, he could try different places until he got it right. "They go in there, don't they?" he asked, indicating a cabinet he thought he remembered them being in.

"As for me," he went on, "things have been...well, both too quiet and too exciting, I guess. I mean, on the one hand, there was a ghost attack and a murder on the Amestris, but I still..." Ichigo trailed off, staring at the pan in his hands.
