He was walking around on two feet, and really only noticed the person in the hat because the last "person" who had shown up in his life wearing something similar had actually been five clockwork cats standing on each others' shoulders in disguise.
Well, the guy wasn't wearing a mask, so it was probably fine this time. If it occurred to him that staring might be rude, he certainly didn't care enough to stop.

Wait a minute! Edgeworth turned around again and gaped. Cats weren't supposed to do that!

He raised a paw in greeting, "Yo."

"Erm..." Edgeworth cleared his throat, and said, "Hello."

He heard someone at the door, and expecting it to just be a routine bellyache or sprained muscle, Ness called out, "Be with you in a second," as he put some bottles of antiseptic in a cabinet. Turning around, he asked, "So what brings you here to-"
Ness stopped in midsentence, having not expected to see a stranger with one arm.

"I'm new to the ship," he explained calmly, as if nothing was amiss. "And I came by for a checkup. However, if now is a bad time..."
Reply
He walked over to where the spare charts were kept. Right. Routine checkup, nothing more.

...who had he passed just now...? A man in a fedora? That had looked like- No, it couldn't be, he'd-
...actually upon turning to see who that was, while not quite as bad as Gregory Edgeworth's vengeful ghost, it was the second worst thing.

"Hrk!"
Edgeworth spun around and nearly choked on his own tongue. "Y-you!"

...his arm was missing. That was a possible explanation, come to think of it...

It had been a ritual anywhere Kurumi had been for the past three years now: she would shut down her operations in the forge, burst into the nearest room with a radio, and listen to Steel Samurai. Sometimes she'd drag the rest of the weapon masters along with her (and she refused to entertain the idea that that could be why so many of them had left their positions), but today, she was on her own, so she went straight to her own room and turned on the radio in the corner.
Soon, the narration was blaring through the walls as the purple-haired girl sat attentively in front of the radio.

"With that foolish samurai gone, I, Evil Magistrate, can finally set my plans for Neo Olde Solare in motion!"
"Noooo!" wailed a high pitched, female voice. "You-you can't! We won't let you!"
"We?" he mocked. "Without the Steel Samurai, you and your friends are worthless! Pitiful!"
"But he-"
"You fool! The Steel Samurai is dead!"
Whaaaaat?! No, that couldn't be! Granted, it had been some time since Edgeworth was able to keep up with the show, but that was absurd! There must be some kind of explanation for that...that nonsense.

Kurumi nodded along. There was no way he could really have died! The Steel Samurai was the greatest hero of all -- the existence of Milky Rose proved that, in some way or another. She scooted even closer to the radio, eyes filled with excitement.
"Aha, but what you didn't know is that, when I had my soldiers sweep the area after he fell from my airship... we found this!"
A series of gasps rang out from the radio.

"No!"
"It's-"
"It can't be!"
"It's exactly as you see it!" boomed the Evil Magistrate. "It is none other than-"
Then, his voice was cut out, and replaced by a short jingle.
"You're listening to the Steel Samurai on the Global Network, brought to you by Peony Rice Company, Xerxes Shipping and Trade, and other fine companies. And now, a word from our sponsors!"
Edgeworth choked back a shocked cry. What a cheap tactic! Did they really have to stoop so low to get a captive audience for those blasted advertisements?!

She still kept some things, though.
Sara was leaning against the wall at one of the corners in the hallway, looking at the pendant around her neck. She wound it up and let the song play, the gears turning in the music box inside.

It could be a coincidence. It was most likely a coincidence. Still, he had to know for sure. Edgeworth stepped towards the girl and cleared his throat.
"Excuse me?"
Reply
"What is it?" Was he new?
Reply
Edgeworth gestured towards her, and asked, "Could you please tell me where you received that necklace?"
