It still hurt.

Bright had revived. She'd been in even worse shape than Kaoru had, but she's pulled through somehow. She was as unstoppable as Kaoru was. She'd woken up in the infirmary, in the next bed over from where Kaoru usually slept ( ... )

Mal knew what was in store for the girl. In the end, her injuries were too severe, and her cavalry had some too late. There was nothing that could be done, and in the end, he had nobody to blame but himself.

But while Mal normally wasn't one to shield others from the truth, dark and nasty as it may be, he didn't have the heart to be the bearer of bad news. Not now, and not to her. Instead, he had just one responsibility: to face his mistake head on, and to make sure her last moments were as peacable as they could be.

Which is what brought him to the room where her and her little friend lie still. He looked down at her and asked, "How're you holding up?"

He all ready knew the answer. He also suspected that she did, as well.

Kaoru looked over. The girl beside her was already resting again. "Not too well," she admitted. "I... I want to stay. But I don't think I can. Is that okay?"

"...an awful lot of people would miss you something fierce," he admitted, his voice quiet. "But nobody's gonna hold it against you if you can't, either."

He rested his hand against hers, and said, "You do what you gotta do."

Anyone who wants to bug Ari, feel free. Pfirsich and Dimo will be put up tomorrow. myworknotme June 2 2011, 05:50:04 UTC
Ari was personally glad to have her crew out and celebrating with everyone else. The revelation of the new world beneath her still floored her, and she needed to think out the implications of such a discovery. What would it mean for Reseune and its research? Hell, what did it mean for her personally? Her mind raced through the myriad possibilities as she stood by one of the less-occupied bonfires and knocked back a drink. Straight vodka, this time.

She felt excited in a way that she hadn't in years. This much new territory to explore and to catalog was a fascinating prospect. What did those giant areas of water below them hide, or the forests or air? And if she squinted just so, she could almost see what might be something man-made in the far, far distance...

"Hello, Dr. Emory," said Hisoka, moving to her side. He was sipping vodka as well. "How are you?"

"Hisoka," Ari said without turning her gaze from the magnificent sight in front of her. Her memory of the way that people moved was acute, even if they'd only spent a few hours together, and the voice was certainly familiar. "I'm very well. How are you, sweet?"

"I'm well," said Hisoka, since that was more or less the case. He was luckier than most, since his experiences left few marks on him, even given his currently-sluggish (by his standards) healing capacity. "I've heard you were the Amestris' acting captain during our recent crisis?"

Milk didn't know what to think about first.

I'm writing to you again today, after... well, you'll know what's happened. Everyone else does.

The world had changed again. She'd started to be afraid of things that shook up the way it was, things other than her grand vision of what she wanted to be. This time, though, she knew what they were seeing was the happy ending they'd been after. Just like she'd said.

I knew it would turn out alright. Didn't you trust me?

The Milky Mirror lay, cleaned and polished, on the dresser. Milk was in her original form, writing away with a pen that was half her own height and occasionally munching on a bar of stolen baking chocolate.

A lot of things have changed over the past three years, but some things stayed the same.

Like now being eighteen years old and still flat.

But overall, I think I'm happier now. What about you? You'd better be happy together, alright? I won't forgive it if you're not! Anyway, I'm sure you're fine. Even when you needed help and wouldn't admit it, you always had people who ( ... )

After finding Kimi and letting her hat fly off the edge, Rikku had gone back into the town to enjoy the day (and the looks people who knew her gave her new haircut). She wasn't paying attention to the ground, naturally, and so didn't see the tiny pink rabbit creature until she'd tripped over it.

Oh well, at least her hair wasn't going to fall down, now.

"Hey!" Milk jumped and waved her paw angrily at Rikku, holding her bruising ear with the other paw. "Watch where you're going ~miru!"

"Oh, sorry, Mi--wait why're you a bunny and not a human right now?" Rikku rolled over and just sat on the ground, staring at Milk. "Did you sneeze again or something?"

The world had not ended! Tea was therefore in order! The first chance Iroh had gotten, he'd dashed over the the Convoy to check on his tea (and nephews). It had been extremely vexing, being stuck on another ship and unaware of the fate of his prized collection (and nephews). Not that he hadn't made the best of the situation and been enjoying himself... he chuckled smugly indeed at the thought.

At the moment, he was happily setting up a makeshift shop, similarly to how he had done at the Hanami festival all those months ago. Everyone could always use tea, no matter the occasion, though he was largely sticking to floral blends and those which would compliment the taste of alcohol, should people decide to imbibe too much. It was a bit of a given, wasn't it?

Maybe he wouldn't have as much business as some others, but that was alright, too. He had people to visit and check up on, as well.

Tea wasn't something Watanuki had thought he'd smell here. The air certainly smelled different since the clouds had vanished away - the new world below sent up its own strange, earthy mix of scents, the smell of a whole world that might as well not have existed until recently.

But right now, light on the air was the scent of tea - herbal and floral, it smelled like, and nearby, too... Watanuki tore his eyes away from the landscape below long enough to locate the source. It smelled good.

He smiled when he recognized the back turned to him, busy with a sweet-smelling canister. Watanuki approached, quietly glad at the predictability of the little makeshift booth. "Excuse me - do you need any help?"

Hearing the voice and recalling its owner, Iroh turned to face the young man, arms full of the tea canister, so he sadly could not hug him. A happy bow would have to do. "Ah, Watanuki!" he beamed brightly. "It is good to see you! And help is always appreciated, so long as you first join me in some tea!"

"I'd be glad to!" Watanuki looked with admiration at the stacks of canisters around the little booth. "This is really amazing - how did you get it all out here?" He didn't know how he could ever choose a flavor - he hoped Iroh had something made already, because if he started looking through these he knew he wouldn't be stopping.

Deanna stood off to the side of the festivities, sipping a drink but not actively involved in any other forms of celebrating. If she looked as though she was in an intense state of concentration, she was. Loathe as she was to do so, the empath was trying to dampen her abilities as much as possible. Emotions were running high-- mostly excitement and relief and joy and other things she was less accustomed to dealing with-- and this many people gathered together in one place could get easily get overwhelming.

Still, she wouldn't have missed the chance to look over at the land below for anything. It was a new world- full of new challenge and possibilities. She couldn't help but be intrigued. Of the three main emotions that she was capable of (deadly, pleasant, or curious), Deanna's mind was fixedly set to 'curious.' It was the most dangerous of them.

While most people were feeling excitement and intrigued by this new possibilities that opened before them there was one person who seemed to be unaffected by all of it. Sam had been brought back to the ship by the others and while he had been left in someone's care they'd inevitably gotten distracted by the disappearance of the cloud cover and he had managed to get away ( ... )

Even dampened as she was trying to make herself, Deanna could not help but sense... something she could not quite identify. She did not immediately turn to look at her new companion, preferring to sense whatever she could from him first. There wasn't much he was emitting, in fact it was the lack of emotions that was drawing her attention. She decided that, should she get the opportunity, she should try to see if his thoughts revealed anything else.

Finally turning to look at him, she didn't so much as bat an eyelash at his current state of dress. "Hello."

Normally his mental defences were nigh impenetrable, but now was different. He had absolutely none to speak of, there was no use for them anyway since anyone who tried would hear the echoes of a hundred different thoughts resounding at the same time. But the loudest thought appeared to be the voices chanting.

We are the intention and the act,
the strength and the weakness,
the light and the dark,
the individual and the whole,
the magic and the miracle.
We are you.
You are we.
The One is the Many.

He tilted his head, he'd long since lost the train of thought that caused him to approach her.

Although he was constantly aware of her ability. Sam extended one hand towards her, palm up and then a small ball of fire flickered into existence above it. "You can do tricks too." His words were a statement, he'd already observed the fact and was commenting on it.
