So, last night was the Tokio Hotel concert in Atlanta. This is my experience and review.
I met up with my friend Caitlin, from my GN 101 class, at 7:30 and we hit the road. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive plus a one hour time jump going from CST to EST. We stopped for lunch on the way and made it to Atlanta about 12:30ish. Luckily, I didn't manage to kill us, even though I did drive the wrong way down a one way twice. :/
So we walked on down to the tabernacle and scope out what was going on for a few minutes before grabbing our spots in line.
We ended up standing behind these two wonderful women from the Netherlands. It was a mom and her daughter, and they were both pretty fluent in both English and German, despite their native language being Dutch. They were very very nice to us and they told us about their experience meeting the boys in Orlando just two days prior. We had a good time getting to know them and hearing their stories.
I must admit, the line was surprisingly tame. There wasn't a lot of people skipping, and even when people tried, thanks to some hard work by
nyssa and many other fans, not many people actually got away with cutting in line.
Although the fan numbering system seemed kind of stupid to me, and it caused a lot of confusion for people who didn't know what was going on. No offense to anyone who took part in it, it just didn't seem to do much good, imo.
As it got closer to time for doors to open, I met a couple more girls who had been at the Orlanda show. One of them had gotten Tom to sign her arm when she met him at the signing, and then she got it tattooed over. It was awesome! Both of the girls were really nice, and even though we got split up going inside once the doors open, we all managed to find each other again, along with the Dutch daughter.
While waiting for the show to start, the crowd all realized that we had a Tom and Bill among us! Upstairs on the balcony were two boys who appeared to be brothers dressed as Tom and Bill. The boy dressed as Tom was probably only 7 or so. He was so cute! EVeryone was waving at him and he just smiled and waved back. He was such a charmer. A lot of girls asked to take pictures with him, and he was totally cool with it. His outfit was amazing! His dreads looked definitely realistic.
Even though the show was supposed to start at 7, it started a little after 8, but it was totally worth the wait. It was my first time seeing the band and they were amazing. Honestly, I hadn't really expected to enjoy hearing Bill singing in English as much as I did. I much prefer the music in German, but he really didn't disappoint. Bill just seems to thrive on the energy of the crowd, and he is an outstanding performer.
All of the boys looked really amazing. Most people have seen pictures by now. I particularly loved Tom's black and pink shoes and his solid black TOM hat.
During 1000 Oceans, Bill walked over to Tom and sang to him 'Please don't drift away from me.' Tom smirked a little bit. It was pretty cute.
I couldn't help but feel that, as many people have noticed in pictures and such lately, that Tom is definitely feeling the effects of their exhaustive schedule. He had his moments where he really 'performed' but mostly I felt he was kind of going through the motions.
He did share one cute moment though, with Gustav. I'm not totally sure what happened, but I looked up and saw Tom and Gustav looking and at each other and laughing about something. It was nice to see them both smiling.
There was another part of the show where Bill walked over and sang to Georg. It escapes me now, what he was singing, but it was cute to watch them ~look into each other's eyes~
Georg is a great performer. I was on Tom's side of the stage, but when the band played 'Raise Your Hands' Georg ran over to help get the crowd pumped up. He has a great smile. And a great body, I might add...
When they played Black, Bill moved to the front of the stage and sat down with his feet dangling over the edge. It was really cute and intimate with the fans right there.
And as many others have said, they played two encores. First, an acoustic version of Rescue Me. Tom cracked me up with this. The crew had set up stools on the stage and put Tom's guitar on a stand. Tom walked out, right past his guitar, then went to sit on the stool and had someone bring his guitar to him. LOL Tom. You did just walk past it, you know? Heaven forbid you pick up your instrument yourself.
And then they left the stage again before returning a final time to play Durch den Monsun, which was amazing. Amazing!
I'm really really glad that the boys came back to play a few more shows in America, because it gave me a chance to go see them. It was definitely an amazing experience for my first TH show. But now I'm ready for them to take a break! They need it!
