Last Goodbye

had to write some poems for Ms Walsh's class. i decided to share one about September 11th that i thought was really good.

Last Goodbye

I didn’t mean those words last night,

The ones that hurt your heart.

I didn’t mean to scream and shout,

This shouldn’t break us a part.

I apologize for the way I acted,

And the way I yelled so loud.

The words came out too fast and harsh,

It was more anger than I allowed.

When I woke up this fateful morning,

While you were still asleep,

I wanted so badly to say “I’m sorry”

But my “pride” I wanted to keep.

I arrived at work this morning,

Like a child back to school.

I knew I should go home to you,

And admit I was a fool.

I didn’t see it coming, though,

Those planes from the skies of Heaven.

As they burst into flames into my building,

On this day of September the 11.

I can feel the flames licking my neck,

And the dirty smoke cloud my thoughts,

As I run down the endless stairs,

My stomach tied in knots.

Now I’m calling you one last time,

But you’re not picking up the phone.

I’ll leave you a message of my love

As I sit in the darkness alone.

“Honey, I’m not going to make it home tonight,

but my love for you is true.

I just wanted to tell you goodbye

And that I’ll always be with you.”

It’s getting warmer every moment,

I know I’m going to die.

I’ll be looking down on you from Heaven,

This is my last goodbye.
