Fool for love no more?

I preface the following with the statement that I am a Spike fan, Spike is the character I care about more than any other in the Buffyverse. I know this is not the way that the show or the comics are supposed to be viewed - they are primarily the story of Buffy and all the other characters are there to serve her story first and foremost. However, ( Read more... )

He’ll still give her ego a boost by assuring her she’s perfect because it does seem that in Spike’s view Buffy can never really be wrong because she’s special.I don't know about that. He did just call her a moron 2 issues ago. I think Spike is there to present the actuality of the scenario and be the intermediate between Kennedy's accusations and the slayers accusations. He never says she did nothing wrong, just presents, as he says, the truth, that she was doped up, controlled, whatever and did what she had to do in breaking the Seed. That is what happened in the story, after all. If Spike is meant to be the truthteller in the 'verse, what else was he supposed to say? He's exposition guy without a dog in the race--isn't a slayer and dislikes magic ( ... )

Great meta.

I pretty much agree with your predictions for season 9 - but I'm not bothered by the lack of definitive answer about Buffy and Spike's feelings to each other. There is no place for happy endings in Jossverse, and I'd rather have a nebulous "what-if".

Thanks.

Just to clarify my issue isn't the lack of happy ending or lack of likelihood of happy ending. What I don't like is that I have nothing in the text to explain how the two characters are currently acting towards each other. I can come up with explanations but I think it's very poor story telling to mean that the readers are having to create the story themselves. Now maybe in time we'll get something that in retrospect will provide some explanation but I'm rapidly coming to the stage where whatever it is it'll be too little too late.

I actually don't need them to 'show us' the scene where Buffy finds out about Spike but a quick reference to it would have given us a lot of insight into how she's reacting to him now. So not only is Spike clueless as to Buffy's feelings so am I, and to add to that I'm clueless as to Spike's feelings on their relationship. This is the crux of my problem.

I think Joss saves that scene for a special occasion. For an arc that will be devoted to Spuffy in season 9.

Maybe I'm delusional, I don't know... :)

I was quite convinced of this during AtS but there comes a point where if you put off something too long it loses its power. The fact that it'll now come (if it ever does) after the reunion already diminishes its power to my mind.

If I want to give Joss the benefit of the doubt I can go with him wanting to save all the good Spike/Buffy stuff for the new season but I'm afraid he did a lot of damage by how he wrote them in season 8 that there'll be fewer fans prepared to stick around to witness it now.

Hi, I'm a long time Spuffy fan, and I just got a bunch of the season 8 comics. I really like your blog, you're a good writer.

I was wondering if you know anyone else sort of reviewing season 8, 9, etc. ?

Hi!

There are a lot of people who've reviewed some or all of season 8. There is also a wide range of opinion from the 'brilliant' through to 'dire'. I'd suggest you have a look at moscow_watcher's lj as she usually includes links to other reviews in her posts.
