SOPA, Censorship and Why Aren't We Rioting Yet?

I've been thinking on and off about SOPA lately. I think most of you are aware of the "Stop Online Piracy Act" by this point, though why I'm assuming that I'm not entirely sure. I've seen very little coverage in the traditional media in the US, as well. But unless I'm hallucinating, I saw something last weekish about SOPA not getting out of committee in the Senate, though there's still the House version to contend with. Sometimes I think it's all a plot by the Post Office to stay in business by making us send snail-mail again.

The media coverage here in the US is sadly lacking. I've been (along with some more tech savvy friends of mine) trying to link to every article that we can over on our FB's and G+, to make sure that our friends and family are aware of it. But the amount of times I've brought it up to people and had them give me a blank stare is kind of frightening. I linked both this inforgraphic and youtube video over on tumblr the other day, but in case you missed them, here they are again. They are informative and entertaining, and stress the point about how scary this all is rather well.

The need for the members of my government to get some serious education in technology has never been more apparent before, and the fact that so many of them don't seem to CARE TO LEARN is scary as hell.

If it passes and then Google+ and Facebook and YouTube get shut down, it will get fixed quickly. If lots of small forums get shut down, few people will notice. It will be harmful for the *next generation* of services.
