It must be time to leave

I was checking students out of the residence hall and this is a conversation I had as a student was signing off on their room.

Student: "Whats the date?"
Me: "The 12th"
Student (with attitude): "Of what??"
Me (with hesitation): "...of..Decemberrr"
Student begins to date the sheet: "1/..."
Student scribbles out her first attempt: "12/1..."
