Who was your buddy this month? unbound_ophelia
What books were chosen for you? Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell - Susanna Clarke, The Pembrokeshire Murders - Steve Wilkins & Jonathan Hill, L.A. Confidential - James Ellroy
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones? I read Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite? n/a
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)? I absolutely loved Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell - I wish I would have read it sooner! Oh, and unbound_ophelia, there's an excellent mini-series of The Pembrokeshire Murders starring Luke Evans which you might want to check - the mini-series are the reason I found about the book itself.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books? I read Valkoakaasiat by Laila Hirvisaari

Great to hear you enjoyed the book! I think I will read it myself very soon, then :)
And thank you for pointing me towards the mini-series, I'll check it out :)

What books were chosen for you?
Choice 1: The Surgeon - Tess Gerritsen (thriller)
Choice 2: A Long Petal of the Sea - Isabel Allende (historical fiction)
Choice 3: Barracoon: The Story of the Last “Black Cargo” - Zora Neale Hurston (nonfiction)

Did you manage to read your books? Which ones? I read "The Surgeon" and liked it a lot. Got "A Long Petal Of The Sea" from the library but haven't gotten around to reading it yet.
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite? n/a
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)? I would definitely recommend "The Surgeon", yes. It was great and I am planning on reading the rest of the "Rizzoli & Isles" series.

What books were chosen for you?
Baudolino by Umberto Eco
Streisand by Anne Edwards
Crooked Little Vein by Warren Ellis
Did you manage to read your books? Which ones?I haven't finished any of them! (But, I'm getting close on two and over halfway on the last.)
If you read more than one, did you enjoy them? What was your favorite?I have come to dislike Barbra Streisand as a human being, but I like the other two well enough. I would say Baudolino is my favorite at this point.
Would you recommend your chosen book(s)?Baudolino, yes. Streisand, only if you are a fan. Crooked Little Vein will not be for everyone. It's dark humor making fun of the American culture's underbelly. It is frequently funny, but it's also often absurd, crude, grotesque, and raunchy. Depends if you like fringe literature.
Did you read anything else this month, outside of your chosen books? The Thomas Berryman Number by James Patterson...okay, but didn't feel as polished as his later books, understandably since it was his first. 😋
