This is purely for my own gratification.

I just played a song that triggered an association with one of my friends, and I realized I have a ton of songs with associations in my collection. Even with people I haven't talked to in ages! There are often multiple songs attached to one person, but for sanity's sake, I'll do one per. (If you desire a more extensive list for your nefarious ( Read more... )

In that case, you need to listen to these songs:

The Shins - Young Pilgrims
The Bravery - Unconditional
Yellowcard - Big Apple Heartbreak
Jimmy Eat World - Disintigration
Coheed and Cambria - Three Evils (Embodied in Love and Shadow)
Death Cab for Cutie - Title and Registration
Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Follow You Into the Dark

No way, a Jimmy Eat World song I don't have! And I have four of their albums. I think we like music in the same vein, so this should be a piece of cake building up still further associations :)

In turn, I recommend:
Dexter Freebish - Leaving Town
The Verve - Weeping Willow
Something Corporate - Down
The Juliana Theory - Into The Dark
Nick Drake - Cello Song

Ah, Leaving Town, that reminds me of Junior Year in high school. I do have Juliana Theory, though I can't say I can place that one. My favorites are Shell of a Man and In Conversation.. Likewise, I have Something Corporate, though I'll have to check out that song. The other 2, I will need to look into =)

As far as the Jimmy Eat World song, it's from their latest E.P., Stay On My Side Tonight. Hey, I have 1 more of their CDs than you do hehe =)

I'm wondering what an extensive list would be for me susoeffl December 1 2005, 09:24:54 UTC
I actually have a playlist called k-dawg with all the songs you sent me, or that remind me of you.. considering all the singing we did in highschool and cds we've swapped.. it's a fairly long list.

Picking for you was sooooo tough. thesubtleknife December 2 2005, 06:55:20 UTC
Yeah, okay, when I started typing yours, I was like, crap. I had four songs down already, and I had to draw the line :P I'm pretty sure I started thinking "Clint Eastwood" was cool when we played it in your car though, so that's why I picked it. There are probably over 100 songs. I instantly thought of numerous They Might Be Giants songs, among them "Meet James Ensor," "Particle Man," "Why Do They Make Balloons" and "XTC vs. Adam Ant," Weird Al, Franz Ferdinand, Eve 6, Cake, Barenaked Ladies, Lit, Green Day, The Beastie Boys, Rent songs, Square Go. And oh my God, "She Fucking Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd, "Kick Ass" by Stroke 9, "El Scorcho" by Weezer, almost any joke song... all the new songs from this summer, the list goes on and on. I've gotta do the playlist too. Better get started on that, could take me a long time ;P You are bound up in my musical tradition!

Did you expect me not to like it? thesubtleknife December 2 2005, 06:59:14 UTC
Haha, well, see, for the associations, they have to be songs I play repeatedly... And that was the one you sent me that I played the most. You say it like it's a bad thing ;) It's not!

*lol* jein. I loved that song...ok everyone did. Ja, Nein, ich mein jein. It was cool. My ex boyfriend liked that Eiffel 65 song, but he also listened to Scooter. Horrible!

Yeah, that song's gotten a fair amount of play from me :)

Uh, sie kommt auf dich zu.
Na Kleiner, hast du Bock auf Schweinereien
Ja klar, äh nein, ich mein Jein !

Soll ich´s wirklich machen oder laß ich´s lieber sein? Jein....

Hahaha, "Blue" can get old after the 60th listen, but it's downright hilarious to see people dancing to. What else do you listen to?

me? oh, I listen to almost everything I guess. I'm one of the few people in Germany that listen to country music. I also like the Beatles, Clapton, Cocker, currdnt stuff... almost everything, really. At the moment my favourite song is The Mamas & Papas - Make Your Own Kind of Music. So, you see. I'm open to everything. Well, as long as it's not Volksmusik or real hard techno. *g*
