what is virtue?
the dictionary descibes it as "a good or admirable quality or property"
then what is "good" or "admirable"
is it simply what society deems good or admirable or is it something more?
i guess my real question is, what is "true virtue"

this whole thing started because i was taking selfishness, for example, and looking at it. if one is selfish, yet others benefit from that persons selfishness than could that be virtue in the sense that it helps others, or since selfishness is generally said to be bad then even if it helped others it couldnt be virtuous. or is virtue simply the absence of what the general populous sees as bad or evil?

That, in my mind, is what 'true virtue' means.
However, everyone has their own opinion,I do not post this in order to inform you of what it means.
Merely to show you my stand point, where you go from here is up to you.

I feel like it's too broad and subject to modification to suit a purpose.
It is easier and more clear to say unselfishness or whatever else your trying to say more specifically.
But I'm sure every concept means nothing to somebody.
