Concerned About A Friend

I'm not really sure how to start this. I wanted to post it on SCS, but I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate. And since all my friends on here are from SCS anyway, I thought this would be the perfect place. I trust all of your opinions and I hope you all can give me the advice I need ( Read more... )

Actually, I'd rather not say whether I've seen him in person or not. I don't want to say too much about him. He's an online friend and I'm gonna leave it at that.

Well to me it's a big diffrence, I honestly feel its hard to know someone from online. For example I talked to this girl from chicago for years online, for whatever reason we talked on the phone once and she was so annoying I never talked to her again. I'm gonna assume he's online friend. I would just stay out of it, if he's insane enough to kill someone, not to mention his worst fear being what "god" thinks of it he is bound to do it another time anyway.

Yeah. You're probably right. But if I'm the only person who knows about it, and he really is gonna kill someone, do I not have an obligation to do something? I mean I don't know the other guy, but a life is a life. This is someone's brother, someone's best friend, someone's son.

Tough one. My first thought is that he's making it up. As you noted, you know the person by online only, and don't have any firsthand proof. A lot seems fishy to me... the whole story just sounds a little too crazy. Not that it's untrue, it just sounds... weird. First off, at least around here, people with restraining orders don't get ankle bracelets. I've never heard of those devices being used, except for house arrest scenarios. But maybe it depends on local laws, I'm not sure ( ... )

Problem is that, while he might be making it up, who makes up that kind of story?

There's definitely some miswired synapses there.

blueduck gives some sage advice there.

Yes, blueduck always has something to say. And it might even be worth more than two cents. ;)

As for the ankle bracelet, he is on house arrest so he may have just been mixed up and thought that it was for the restraining order.

Jeremy, that's a really good idea. I hadn't thought of that. I'd actually like to have the actual number before I tell him so it wouldn't be an idle threat. And I'm not sure how to do that. But I do have his home address.
