Character(s): Kurt Szardos, Zexion, anyone else Content: Kurt makes it to the Bow just in time and chats with the crew. Setting: The Artemis Bow Time: sunday2, week2 Warnings: None as of yet.
Captain Hunter had planned to go all the way to Peru without a map, or direction, or even a plan. Her attitude didn't surprise Riku too greatly, seeing as he spent most of his life with people who followed everything but what their heads were trying to say, but it did make him worry about the state of the ship by the time they arrived in Peru. That was ultimately why he was sitting on a box on deck, with multiple copies of the same map in front of him, a compass, a pen (almost entirely used up), and a headache growing somewhere behind his eye. It was true that he knew a lot about maps and boats, since he had traveled a lot with the help of both, but this was the first time the sole duty of navigation was placed on his hands. He really, really didn't care about where they were going, in the end... he just wanted to get the ship there in one piece.
Bamf. Riku stiffened at the peculiar sound, then immediately abandoned his work and slipped off the box, putting a hand to his shoulder, near the hilt of his sword.. He looked down the deck
( ... )
Kurt looked around a bit and after a moment or two to take in his suroundings. Ha! I made it! ....that was a close one. He thought to himself. He leaned himself against the railing of the deck to catch his breath. He had been running franicly in town for quite some time. He let out a breath and drew back his hood, leting some of the breeze cool his sweating face. He absent mindedly ran a three fingured hand through his dark navy hair.
Then, faintly he heard something. It sounded a little like clothing shifting on a person. He looked around a bit for a sign of life. After a moment or two he shrugged figuring it was just the sails or something blowing in the wind.
Riku had to bite his lip to hold in his sudden gasp. Who was that? His mind instantly flew back to all of the childhood ghost stories that his mother had told him, demons in the middle of the night that came to drag small children in the sea... then he got a grip his imagination. Those stories were from a long time ago, and here and now, he knew that there was no such things as demons. The new arrival was a person, he sternly reminded himself, no matter how -- well, demon-like -- he seemed. Even now, the navigator noted, as his blood-pressure meandered to normal, the other guy slouched down on the rail and enjoyed the breeze with a near-comical look of satisfaction on his face didn't resemble any evil frown that Riku could think of - and he had seen a lot of evil frowns
( ... )
Kurt gently pushed himself off the side of the railing once the small breeze had passed. It was nice to sit and catch his breath but he had to make sure he checked in first with Ms. Hunter. After all he was one of the ships Boatswains, he was somewhat responsible for the crew, and somewhat an authority figure. Which he had to admit was an odd position for him to be in. Sadly not much else was open.
He was brought out of his thoughts when he heard a noise nearby him. He looked and saw there was a silver haired boy that looked just about his age. He was stacking some papers on a crate. He looked like he hadn't seen him yet.
Kurt, out of habit mostly, drew back on the hood and took a few steps. he didn't want to startle him off.
"Uhm....Hallo? I vas maybe vondering if...maybe you could tell me vhere to find Ms. Hunter?" He said rather akwardly.
Riku looked up, impassive, and noticed that the other boy had replaced his hood. Looks like he was used to the way people reacted to his appearance.
Strong accent, too. Something German-ish, the navigator guessed, and the tone of his voice seemed friendly, even hesitating. And if he wanted to see Oriana... Well, the captain could definitely handle the entire business. However, he didn't drop his guard. Riku nodded a greeting, and wordlessly pointed towards Captain Hunter's cabin.
The booy looked up at him and seemed rather indifferent about Kurts presence. This was okay with him, though. He didn't really want a whole lot of attention from anyone.....unless of course it was a lady. Then he didn't mind. Not at all.
Anyways
Kurt nodded friendly-like to the boy. "Danke--" He stopped himself and corrected his language. "--Thank you." He was probably going to have to get used to using english a tad more.
"I need to report in....it's a bit sad that one of the Boatswains almost miss his ship" He said with a more humorous tone.
((ooc: They said they'll respond eventually. but thats all I know.))
Manners always helped Riku's opinion of anyone, especially someone so genuine, but boatswain? This guy? Riku took a step back and looked the other up and down. If his voice was any hint, the other boy couldn't have been any older than himself. And with those silver-haired men as the other authority figures on the boat...
Hoo boy.
Riku inclined his head politely, and reaching out with his hand, levelly said, "Riku Andrade, navigator. And you are?"
Kurt was curious of the other boys sudden movements. He must have been skeptical of Kurt position. Hell, HE was skeptical of his position. He wasn't even sure how he had managed to land it in the first place.
Maybe Ms. Hunter thought him to be a little intimidatiing? He wasn't so sure he liked that idea but in the end it didn't matter. What mattered was that he was on a ship, free and on his own.
He looked at the hand that was suddenly held out for him. He wanted Kurt to shake. What to do.....what to do. He could shake and possibly get a horrid reaction from the other or he could not shake and be foreverly known as a rude man with the manners of a disgruntled badger.
He didn't like the idea of being considered rude.
Kurt swallowed heavily and reached out his hand slowly and shook with Riku Andrade. "....Kurt Szardos."
Riku watched as the other boy watched his hand tentatively. Would he shake? Riku had already seen the boy's hands when he had first appeared, how the digits looked as though they were stuck in a glove with two too few fingers, so he was ready for what would come, but would the other boy break cover?
A small gulping noise surprised Riku, and he watched his own hand shaking that of the blue-haired boy, who seemed nervous but resolute.
It was fuzzy. Riku found that, for some reason entirely beyond his ken, that he had to keep down a smile. Instead of giving in to his face muscles, he relaxed his stance and replied, "Welcome aboard, Kurt."
Kurt couldn't hold back the smile when he saw that Riku didn't so much as flinch when he took Kurts hand. He definatly felt that he had made the right choice to join a pirate ship.
When the shake broke Kurt casually, not quickly or nervously, but casually put his hand back into his pocket, much more relaxed than he was before.
Feeling brave he drew back his hood and with the same smile in place, he replied, "Thanks. I think that I'm going to like it here."
((ooc: eh, should we end it here? What do you think?))
