Karolina Dean was hardly the kind of person to be accused of being a pirate. She was currently leaning on the railing of the Cheap Prayer, looking out at the horizon. Her long blonde hair was loose around her shoulders and she was clearly happy. It was a sunny day, with a little bit of wind, and it felt great.

She missed some people, from her home. Most of all she missed her fellow runaways, as the issue of her parents... well, she missed them too. It was hard to believe that all of that really happened, and now she had a position on a pirate ship. Karolina had changed a lot, and in particular, she no longer wore a small medical bracelet around her wrist.

Nobody knew that here, though. Nobody knew anything about her, and that was strangely invigorating.

Danny stood by the railing for a while, taking in as much as he could. He loved the ocean, plain and simple. It was that one simple thing that he could look at and for a moment not feel any weight from the last few months he had gone through. He wondered mildly what his parents were up to. Where they looking for him? Maybe they had forgotten all about him and were working diligently on another project. He didn't know, but in the end he didn't care either.

He looked slightly when he suddenly felt the presence of another. Putting the fact that he didn't know how he felt the presence of another aside, he looked to his right. There was another on the railing not to far from him. She seemed to be absorbed in the scenary as well.

Feeling a passionate need to make conversation with the first person besides Haruhi since he left his old ship nearly a week and a half ago, he spok up, "The skies real nice today, isn't it?"

She had not expected someone to be there. Karolina was a little startled by the voice. She had been completely absorbed by her surroundings and the atmosphere that when the boy spoke a bit of color jumped to her cheeks.

"Ah! ... Yeah, it's sunny too," Karolina raised her hands above her head, fingers stretching out. She loved the sun, it always made her feel energized. There was another reason for her liking the sun too, but she was going to ignore it.

Karolina was just Karolina here. She didn't need to be anyone else.

Danny felt like slapping himself when he realized that he scared her. Nice social skills retard He felt dumb for interrupting her view.

When she replied to him he felt alittle better. "Yeah, its one of those perfect days I guess. Not too hot, not to cold, with a nice breeze." He hoped that he didn't sound really creepy just then, like he was obsessed or something.

He hated the fact that his conversational skills had completly vanished since he left home.

So they agreed. A sunny day with a nice temperature and a bit of a breeze. Karolina turned from the railing, then, towards Danny and offered a hand.

"I'm Karolina," She hadn't used her last name in a long while, and it would feel weird to introduce herself as 'Karolina Dean'. Either because it was a lie, or because ... even her parents had loved her, Dean must have just been a name they borrowed from a famous actor. There was something disappointing in having a fake lineage. "It's nice to meet you."

Danny took the girls hand as she offered it and shook. He looked up at her, she was deffinatly a few inches taller. He guessed she was about 16 or so. He was starting to wonder how many teenagers were pirates on this ship. Maybe getting a job here won't be so hard after all.

"I'm Danny, it's nice to meet you too." He responded. She gave no last name so he decided not to either. It was probably best that way in the end. He didn't want anyone to link him with his parents, who were fairly wellknown for thier accomplishments, and help with the Powers. From her accent he could tell she was american.

Oh good, he shook hands. For a brief second Karolina was afraid he was going to be someone who didn't shake hands as a greeting. That had been embarrassing when she had tried to shake hands with someone who bowed instead. It had been an awkward experience for all involved.

"Is this your first time on a ship? This is mine," She admitted with a small shrug. The closest thing she had gotten to it was the weird machine Chase had stolen from his father. Not quite a ship, and hardly a pirate ship.

Though, perhaps runaway was close enough to pirate.

The shake made him really happy. It was an innocent shake between two and ment that there was no humiliation or blackmail involved, there was no fear of discovery and best of all, he still had his pants!

The pirate outfit Haruhi had bought him/forced him to wear still made him feel akward.

"No, actually, this is like my third or fourth I think. First pirate ship though, so I'm a little nervous about talking to the captain. I don't know how different its going to be." There was a little bit of worry in his voice with that last sentence. He hoped she wouldn't pick that up.

Had Karolina known what Danny was thinking, she may have had to ask some questions, especially about the pants. However, she didn't, and offered him a small smile. Nice kid, or seemed like one so far. Not at all the kind of person she thought a 'pirate' might be.

"The captain did look a little intimidating, didn't he?" She asked, speculatively. Karolina didn't like to judge people on their looks, but Captain Cross seemed like an intimidating person. She was hoping to avoid talking with him for a while too. "He's not at all like any of the people back home."

Danny nodded, he didn't actually know what the captian looked like but her breif description told him enough to be a little more worried. He tried not to show this, he had made it up in his mind he was going to confont him and demand a job. No matter what.

"No I don't guess you do." He thought for a moment and then asked a question he was a little curious about. "You sound American, where're you from?" After a pause he added, "I think your the first one I've met that wasn't from Japan."
