Character(s): Roxas and whoever else pokes him (Namine? :3) Content: ":|" Setting: Deck of the Hajimaru, near the mast Time: Monday2, noonish Warnings: None.
Naminé had done a lot in the past week. She'd avoided a fight between Emma and another woman in disguise, met a different woman in disguise, met briefly with Axel--punched him and survived, too!--and had her true gender found out by Cloud. However, all had gone well so far. Kai was still ignorant of her gender, and she had done well to hide it from everyone else that couldn't tell. So far, at least. She woke up before everyone else to get ready, and quickly went about her chores as she was supposed to.
She might've been held in captivity and forced to do things, but for once, the girl was enjoying having chores. It kept her occupied, and assured she would have sketchbook paper for later. She wasn't sure how long they'd be out on this... crystal skulls quest or whatever, it was smart to reserve what she could of it at the moment. But right now, she decided that drawing seemed like a great idea.
Although the last thing she expected to see was Roxas sticking orange slices into his mouth. Naminé hadn't even known Roxas was on the same
( ... )
It took a while for Roxas to notice that someone else was there. He hadn't expected someone else to be there. He was on his fourth wedge of orange when it occurred to him to look around. Roxas raised his head, and found himself looking at a blonde girl. At first he wondered if he had mistaken her gender, but there was something in the face that told him she was female.
Also, she was strangely familiar. There was the feeling that he knew this girl. De ja vu, in the oddest way, he couldn't quite grasp onto the familiarity of it.
... was she really that obvious? Or were the people that didn't know her gender that dense? Naminé wouldn't ask.
Nearly jumping, but managing down a squeak easily by this point, the girl turned to look at the other blonde with a slightly surprised look. Well, this seemed... slightly awkward. To her, at least. She wasn't sure how, but it was kind of like re-meeting someone when you'd just seen them yesterday. Naminé knew who Roxas was, and yet...
"Hello," was given back, followed by a slight smile. She wouldn't bother concealing her gender from the other Nobody... it was a little bit pointless. She flipped open her sketchbook in the meantime, preparing for a moment of drawing.
A small smile tugged on the corner of his lips when she started. He didn't feel bad for surprising her, he had expected it (somehow). Roxas nodded at her returned greeting, there wasn't much else to say if she was going to be the quiet type. That was okay, because he was a bit quiet himself.
There was the brief question as to why she was on this ship. Kai wasn't exactly known for his love of the female gender. However, there was something strangely comforting about a 'familiar' face. Roxas couldn't quite pin it down, which caused a brief frown to fall across his face. He really should be used to these gaping holes in his memory, but sometimes it seemed like he was missing something very important.
Something inside the girl felt like it was hurt, no matter Xenmas' words on Nobodies being unable to feel things. Roxas didn't seem to remember her, or at least completely. Naminé noticed something along the lines of recognition to him, but she felt it... vague. Finding the last blank page and a good spot to lean on, the girl pulled out a pencil to begin sketching, not quite sure what she wanted to do, but let her pencil figure out how to do it.
When she looked up towards him again, she noticed the frown and had to don one herself, tilting her head inquiringly, as though asking why it went to it from the slight upturn of his lips that could be considered a smile on the other blonde Nobody. Although both were the relatively quiet type, she felt the urge, perhaps need, to talk to Roxas. "Is something the matter?"
He had been trying to puzzle out his memory when she spoke again. This wasn't just deja vu, or a familiar feeling. Roxas felt like he'd had this exact same conversation with her before. It irked him, a little, to know that so much of his life was uknown. She didn't act like she knew him, however, which made it worse. Then maybe it was all in his head.
"...I don't know."
Roxas had been contemplating just shaking his head at her and ending the conversation there. He hadn't had a real conversation in a very long time, however. It was ... nice.
Naminé considered how to respond to him for a moment, not looking down at her sketchbook, rather towards him thoughtfully. Her pale eyes seemed contemplative, before she looked down towards the deck quietly. It didn't seem right, dragging him back into the world he once knew, but she didn't feel right pretending she didn't know him. What would Axel do if she told him Roxas was with her? Would he try to make him remember what he left behind?
"... you don't remember me, do you?"
It just slipped out, but to Naminé, it seemed like the perfect question to ask. It was simple enough, although it hurt her a little to ask. She berated herself mentally for this; Nobodies weren't supposed to feel, Naminé. We can not feel sorrow, guilt, anger... We may pretend to, but this is just an appearance. Honestly, she didn't care what they thought... There was something there.
That was it. Roxas's frown deepened. He didn't remember her, but he should. Her face said it too, some sort of thoughtfulness and maybe even a little disappointment. In turn, he was more disappointed as well. She had to be someone important, someone he'd just forgotten. This is the first person from 'then' who told him that he knew them, or that he should know them.
"...No. Should I?"
Roxas sat up a little, so he could look at her face properly. His expression was mostly unreadable, but there was a little curiosity and frustration there.
"..." Naminé looked a bit more thoughtful than before, sighing briefly before placing her sketchbook against her chest a moment, arms wrapping over it in a self hug. So he did forget. This makes her curious, and wonder if any of this was her fault... had she tampered with his memories by accident once? Or did the higher-ups do something? The Neophytes, even?
So many questions, but she knew she wouldn't get any answers now. "Yes," she says straight-to-the point, though in a slightly saddened manner. "My... my name is Naminé. And you're... Roxas." She tred carefully in this subject, and wasn't sure how much she should say. It might not of been smart to tell him everything now. "We were... sort of friends..." she considered this a moment, worrying her lower lip to figure it out. "In my position, I didn't get to see a lot of ... nicer... people. You were one."
It wasn't in Roxas's personality to doubt. Had he been a different person, he might have turned a suspicious face towards Namine and assumed she was playing him the fool. That she had taken his name off of the roster and was playing with his amnesia. However, she didn't seem like the person to do that, and whatever small bit of his memory found her familiar told him she wasn't a liar.
"...Namine," He repeated quietly, under his breath. The name felt familiar in his mouth. She said they were friends, and there was a brief twist of guilty confusion. That he didn't remember at all. A part of him wanted to blame the woman who had called herself his mother, and say that she had lied to him. But from the expression on Namine's face, he might prefer that fake life to whatever this one was. "... I don't remember anything."

"Hi." He offered up between them.
