Yes, taste, I have thought exactly the same thing. If this nation had a bout of Instant Karma and stopped buying useless-shit-we-don't-need then this country would go into another Great Depression. And you are correct in assuming that the rest of the world would be dragged down with us. So..the fate of the world rests on our Britney Spears Dolls, SUVs, and pre-packaged food. Scary thought, isn't it? Consumer Conciseness would not be a good thing ( ... )

When the state of a group of people becomes bad, they adapt. When it becomes too bad, they will fight back. If they have the resources to win, they will win. If they don't they will lose and have to adapt again. This cycle repeats itself infinitely. The important thing to note is that not one person decides "now we will fight," the desicion is made by external factors that create a level of plight or resistance. So the decision is made by the external factors, not people. All social change is a product of circumstance. It has been asked "do the times create the men, or do the men create the times?" My answer is a resounding: The times create the man. Every time. So circumstance, not people (or "ideas" or "values" or "morals") affect change. It is all meaningless ( ... )
