I managed to keep silent (because there didn't seem any point to saying anything) when a friend of mine posted a big rant about "corporate shopping" followed by talking about going to Costco.

No, the nascent Wal-Mart pissing match. Although a lot of people all for Whole Foods are rabidly against Wal-Mart. I guess being an anti-union, greenwashing, labor exploiting business is OK if you do a lot of yoga or something.
