Don't always be right on time? What kind of advice is that?

From a musical standpoint, you can be on time and you can be not on time. Being "not on time" is different from doing a note let's say a 16th of a rest later than on the downbeat that would sound "right."

Not being right on time can be a bad thing if it's not done in even intervals with your song. Meaning if it's in 4/4, which your song was, do notes on 16ths, 8ths, and quarters. Anywhere else isn't really going to sound right unless you're doing it for some strange stylistic reason. I can see this being done in sort of a freeverse type of thing where the vocals aren't actually vocals, but they are more closely seen as spoken words.

If anything you should work on getting things in the song back in time. Remember that my definition of in time is on even intervals, which I talked about above. Otherwise I was fine with it.

yes, yes, got it- what I meant (I hate using that phrase) was that it sounds rigid, and it is possible to play it at nearly the same place, but not quite, and make it sound better. it comes down to feel.

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to really go back and think about it, particularly the chanting vocals and the hook before the break. I am usually always in favor of cutting stuff down, trying to make the song pretty efficient and as interesting as possible

Things aren't looking good for another show. We got offered Mattapalooza on the 26th, but I don't think Dan can make it. We'll always have the memories, and maybe christmas break.
