CHARACTER
NAME(S): Erza Scarlet, "Erza the Titania," etc.
FANDOM: Fairy Tail
BACKGROUND HISTORY: Erza's story begins when she and her former nakama* were captured by a cult of black mages and used as child slaves to build the Tower of Paradise and create the "R system," a forbidden magic used to bring people back to life in exchange for the death of another. The cult plans to use this magic to revive their dark god, Zeref. Erza and the other children attempt an escape, but they are captured and she is beaten very badly. She loses her right eye after this. Her friend, Gerard, comes to rescue her out of the dungeons, but then he is taken and beaten. Erza, remembering his encouraging words, finally gets fed up and stages a revolt with the other slaves. Many of the slaves die, including a man the children affectionately call "Old Rob," a grandfatherly figure who sacrifices himself to save Erza. Stricken with grief, Erza's magical power is activated, and she kills the guards and magicians who have caused her and her nakama so much pain. When she finally comes to get Gerard though...it is too late, and his mind has been twisted by the horrors he's been put through and he's become possessed by the spirit of Zeref. He kills the remaining guards and tells Erza he wishes to complete the R system and revive the god Zeref. He attacks her, and tells her that he and the others will stay to complete this task, and that she is no longer needed.

*Nakama are a group of close companions.

He nearly kills her by knocking her off a cliff, and she washes up on the shore of an unknown island. Somehow, she manages to survive this and finds her way to the Fairy Tail guild, which Old Rob told her about before his death. She joins this guild and her eye is healed by the healer mage Polyushka. However as this eye has been restored by magical means, she cannot shed tears through it. Eight years go by...

When Erza makes her first appearance in the manga, she's arrived from a lengthy mission and is carrying the spoils of her battle: a large demon horn, which the village she rescued gave her as a gift to commemorate her defeat of the demon. She's come to get Natsu and Gray for a mission to stop Dark Guild Eisenwald's leader, Eligor, from using a flute known as the Lullaby, which creates a song that kills anyone who hears it. The group(with Lucy as a mediator and Happy the cat tagging), heads to the Oshibana train station, where Eligor and his group were last seen. She immediately beats the hell out of a bunch of the Eisenwald group, but is soon trapped within the confines of the train station by Eligor's magic. He's created a giant wind storm around the station that can't be escaped from, and deliberately lured Erza and her group there so that he could easily take care of his true target: the guild masters who are having a meeting in a neighboring town.

Erza finds out a member of the Dark Guild(Kageyama) can dispel the flute magic, but he is stabbed in the back by one of his own guild members and rendered unable to move. It seems that they are now trapped for good in the wind storm, but then Lucy uses her Summon Spirit, Virgo, to dig tunnels below the train station that they escape out of. They travel(with a wounded Kageyama), through use of a magical four-wheeler that Erza powers with her magic. However, Kageyama betrays them and takes the four wheeler, making a beeline toward the guild masters' meeting. The Fairy Tail guild master, Makarov, convinces Kageyama not to play the flute...but then it becomes evident that the flute carries an evil demon within it. Erza, Natsu and Gray destroy the demon--and also the entire guild masters' headquarters on accident. After this, Erza is arrested by the guild commitee for the destruction of the guild masters' meeting place, and Natsu goes on a half-cocked mission to rescue her. However, it was revealed that the arrest was merely for appearance purposes, and she would be released with little more than a slap on the wrist.

In the next part of the story, Erza plays something of a minor role. She goes to retrieve Natsu, Grey and Lucy from an S-class mission on Garuna Island(where people were being turned into demon's due to an eerie purple light that the moon was emitting) that they have gone on without permission. At first she refuses to help on the mission, intending only to take Natsu, Gray and Lucy home to "punish" them, but Gray appeals to her sense of honor, and she relents.

They find out the island is being used to revive an ancient demon known as Deliora. This demon was encased by Gray's magic teacher, Ur, over ten years ago--but at the cost of her own life. Gray's fellow pupil, Leon, is trying to revive Deliora in order to defeat it, thinking he can surpass Ur in this way. The group tries to stop Deliora's revival, but he is brought back to life anyway. However, his body was destroyed years ago by Ur's magic, and crumbles to dust. The mission isn't over yet though, and Erza figures out the people of the village are being affected by a large barrier in front of the moon--the residue left by the magic used to revive Deliora. She destroys the barrier with Natsu's assistance, and it is revealed that the villages have been demons the entire time, and light from the moon barrier had altered their memories. They are kindhearted demons however, and tell the group that they're welcome back any time.

When Erza and the others return home, they discover the guild has been attacked by a rival guild known as the Phantom Lord. Makarov seems unconcerned by the attack on the building and advises everyone not to start a reckless fight, but this changes when three of their guild members are attacked. Erza, Makarov, and all the other members of Fairy Tail bumrush the Phantom headquarters and start an all-out brawl. But Makarov's magic is drained by one of their opponents, and Erza calls for a retreat. Apparently, the entire attack was a ruse for the Phantom guild to kidnap Lucy and take her back to her father. Lucy does get kidnapped by the Phantom guild, but Natsu goes off to rescue her. So enraged by this humiliation, the leader of the rival guild plans to destroy all of Fairy Tail with a magical cannon known as Jupiter. Erza stops the first cannon blast with her armor, but is gravely wounded and has to sit out most of the fight. Natsu destroys the cannon, but...

...the entire Phantom guild building changes into a huge robot and begins to cast magic against the members of Fairy Tail and the entire town they're in. The giant robot is eventually stopped when Fairy Tail defeats the Phantom Lord's most powerful mages: the Element Four. But they are too late to save Lucy, who has once again been captured by the Phantom guild. Natsu rescues Lucy from another one of the Phantom Guild's mages, Iron Dragon Slayer Gazille. Erza, meanwhile, has to face off against the Phantom guild leader, Jose. She is soundly defeated, but Makarov recovers and comes to finish off Jose and Phantom guild with his powerful light magic, Fairy Law.

In the next mission the group has, Erza and the others are sent to work at a theater and perform for pay. Erza shows she loves theater performing, but she sucks pretty hard at it, stammering and ruining her lines. Still, the play goes on to be a success.

HUGE SPOILERS BELOW!

In the next arc, Lucy chooses a group to go with her to an expensive resort. At the hotel, Erza and the others are enjoying themselves(Erza is shown to be an excellent gambler), but old faces from Erza's past show up and kidnap her. These are her former nakama, and they've captured her to become a sacrifice for the Tower of Paradise.

Erza is not comfortable with the idea of becoming a sacrifice, so she exhibits some champion-level fierceness, knocks out her captor Shou with a well-placed knee to the stomach, tears off the rope around her wrists with her teeth and goes to find the leader of her former nakama, Gerard. And she does this all in a fabulous dress. Natsu, Gray, Jubia(a former Phantom guild member) and Lucy head to the Tower to help her. Erza is determined to defeat Gerard, and the others join her in her effort to find him. They have a time limit, however: the Magic Council, upon finding out about the Tower of Paradise and the forbidden R system, plan to destroy it from space, using a magical weapon called the Aetherion. The group has to fight Gerard's subordinates, the Assassin's Guild Skull Order. Erza has to fight a woman named Ikaruga, who can cut through anything with her katana. It at first appears that Erza is outmatched since Ikaruga easily destroys most of her armor, but then they have an old-fashioned samurai-esque fight and Erza kicks her ass anyway. She then continues on to find Gerard. She finds out he is a double-agent for the Magic Council, and has been posing as a man named Sieglein the entire time. He plans for the Aetherion to hit the Tower of Paradise in order to power it. The Aetherion hits the tower, and it transforms into a Lachryma Crystal, which absorbs the Aetherion's energy and thus, successfully completes the R system. He plans to use Erza's body, fuse it with the crystal, and use it and her body as a vessel for Zeref. Just in time, Natsu comes to the rescue and defeats Gerard in an epic battle. But because the Aetherion no longer has a vessel to support its power, it quickly begins to spiral out of control, which would result in a massive explosion that would destroy anyone within the vicinity: including Gray, Lucy and Jubia, as well as Erza's old comrades. Erza decides to sacrifice herself in order to fuse with the Lachryma, hoping to control its incredible power and keep it contained at the cost of her life. While inside the Lachryma, Erza sees a vision of her own funeral, and is pained at the despair and sorrow her death has caused. After that depressing image, she fades into the Aetherion...

...and awakens in Natsu's arms. He managed to save her from the magic she was trapped in before her body was destroyed by it. It is then that she realizes that she doesn't have to die for the sake of her nakama, but live for their sakes. She cries tears of joy at this revelation, and the group heads home from the Tower of Paradise. She goes to give her old nakama a rousing farewell(complete with a speech and fireworks) at the beach as they head off in a boat to "see the outside world."

The day after, Erza, Natsu, Gray, Happy and Lucy go to the Fairy Tail headquarters to find it restored and in better condition than ever. Everyone in the guild gets ready to prepare for the Fantasia festival, and the women of Fairy Tail in particular get ready for the Miss Fairy Tail contest. Makarov's grandson Luxus comes back to Fairy Tail headquarters during the festival, and as he is angry at the "bad reputation" Fairy Tail has received, he plans to defeat the others in battle with the help of his personal bodyguards, the Raijinshuu. One of these members, Evergreen, uses her powers to turn all the women of Fairy Tail--Erza included, into stone. She tells Makarov and the other guild members they have three hours to win the "tournament" Luxus has set up, or the women will turn to sand. Luxus forces the guild to compete amongst each other in this tournament, and traps Makarov, Gazille and Natsu in a magical barrier so that they won't be able to help. It seems that once again, all hope is lost, but Erza's false eye kept her from being completely affected by Evergreen's magic, and she is freed from the spell. The mysterious class S mage, Mistgun, arrives to help as well. Erza quickly finds herself in a fight with Evergreen, who wants to take the title of "Titania" for herself. Erza beats her easily, and makes her remove the magic that turned the other women into stone.

As the battle is quickly turning against his favor, Luxus casts a spell known as the "Hall of Thunder. Lightning crystals surround the entire city. When they are discharged, the town would be destroyed by a series of lightning storms. And if they are destroyed, the magic bounces back and hits the attacker.

Erza, Natsu and Gazille head toward the Cathedral to fight Luxus and find him in the midst of a battle with Mistgun. Mistgun's face, which is normally covered, is finally revealed. He is identical to Gerard, which shocks Erza, but he tells her he is not Gerard and disappears. Erza exquips her Lightning Emperor's armor to go destroy the thunder crystals while Natsu faces off against Luxus. She summons two-hundred swords at once to destroy the crystals, but that is still not enough to destroy them all at once. The other members assist her, and they all make quick work of the Hall of Thunder.

Natsu and Gazille defeat Luxus, Luxus is excommunicated from the guild by Makarov, and Fairy Tail finally has their festival and parade. Erza performs with her swords for the celebration.

TIMELINE SUMMARY: Erza is taken after the Fighting Festival arc, as she's performing with her swords. At this point, she believes Gerard has been killed by Natsu. She's also forgiven herself for leaving her old nakama in the Tower of Paradise years prior, and been forgiven by them in turn. This is a good timeline to pull her from as she's a bit more settled and at peace with herself, and will be less likely to blow up Rivelata upon arrival. She is going to be pretty confused and angry at the loss of her armor and swords, however.

PERSONALITY: Erza is a serious, adventurous sort, someone who dislikes sitting by idly and prefers to take action. She's very impatient--she once headbutts a guard repeatedly because he refuses to answer her question immediately. She's intimidating, critical and stern for her age, to the point where the other mages of Fairy Tail--and mages all over the world, fear her wrath and battle prowess. She has a very strong sense of honor and loyalty, and treasures her guild members--or nakama, more than anything else. She's pretty much your quintessential knight in shining armor--complete with shining armor. She'll protect her friends at any cost, even that of her own life, has a low tolerance for bullshit and trouble making of all kinds, values honesty, and is very, very strict about following rules, but even she isn't above bending them if she has to in certain situations.

She solves lots of problems through use of efficient and brutal violence: when Natsu is motion sick on a train, she punches him in the stomach so hard, it knocks him out for the duration of the trip so that he won't have to suffer the whole ride.

Erza has a strong sense of duty and often feels guilt when things go wrong, even if they aren't her fault. That isn't to say she's all serious, however: she's prone to displays of affection sometimes, and often hugs her guild members(though the hug is very painful, as she's usually wearing her armor), and treats Natsu and Gray like younger brothers. It's obvious she has a very deep love for her guild and her nakama, and will protect them at all costs.

She has a great love of stage acting, though a horrible case of stage fright, and will usually mangle her lines and overact. Because of her skill as a mage and her leadership qualities, Makarov considers her as an option to succeed him as leader of Fairy Tail once he retires, but thinks she's too young.

SPECIAL ABILITIES: Happy the cat once says Erza's magic is beautiful, because it made a lot of blood come out of her opponents. She's an incredibly powerful, capable fighter and, to date, one of the strongest mages in her world, and at a level of power comparable to her guild leader, Makarov. This means she's also at a level close to the Ten Great Holy Mages.

Erza has a great deal of abilities, but most of them involve her unique magic, known as Exquip. Basically, her magic is in the form of an armor she can alter to suit her needs. She has various forms, and can even change the armor to a bikini, a maid outfit, various dresses and pajamas.

♕ Strength: Erza is incredibly strong. When she first appears, she is seen carrying a massive demon horn one-handed, and sets it down in the middle of the guild building like it's little more than a bag of groceries. She also seems to carry a ridiculous amount of luggage around with her during guild missions, and has no problem carrying those items either.

♕ Weapon Change: Erza can effortlessly and quickly(pretty much instantly) change her weaponry to any weapon she sees fit using Exquip. Various forms include long swords, broadswords, axes, baseball bats, katana, twin swords, great swords, spears...and the list goes on. She can also summon more than one of these weapons at a time--her current maximum is said to be 200 swords at once. She can also make these weapons float in the air around her for ranged attacks.

♕ Armor

As noted, Ezra's primary ability is her Exquip, a magic that allows her to switch armor and weaponry very quickly. Her particular brand of this magic is called "The Knight," and she is the only sword mage in the world able to exquip armor during combat situations. Her various armors are as follows. I'm only including the ones up until the timeline she's been taken from. Pictures for reference!

Heart Kreuz Armor: This is Ezra's ordinary armor, which was custom made by the Heart Kreuz company(it was implied that she threatened them into doing so.) Her sword is made by the same company.

Heaven's Wheel Armor: This is the second armor that's seen in the series. Multiple swords surround Erza in this form, and she uses the swords for ranged attacks on large groups.

Black Wing Armor: This armor appears in the battle against the devil lurking within the Death's Lullaby flute. Erza gains batwings in this form, and only carries one sword. However, her destructive(I'm assuming offensive) power increases greatly in this form.

Flame Emperor's Armor: This first appears in chapter 22, in Erza's duel against Natsu. This fire-resistant armor decreases the effect of fire attacks by half.

The Giant's Armor: An armor Erza used to "destroy" the moon in Chapter 45; it increases her throwing power. It comes equipped with an elaborate spear.

Herculean Armor: This armor first appears in the battle against the Phantom Lord guild. It greatly increases Erza's defensive power, to the point where she was able to withstand a huge magic blast from the Phantom Lord guild's "Jupiter Cannon."

Purgatory Armor: "None has seen this armor and lived to tell the tale. Witness it and know true despair," Erza claims when she activates this armor. However, it was never truly used, as Ikaruga destroyed it shortly after Erza summoned it. It is apparently very powerful, but as the abilities are unknown, it's unlikely she'll be summoning this armor in Rive.

Lightning Emperor's Armor: Erza uses this to destroy the thunder crystals in the Fighting Festival arc. It decreases damage received by lightning attacks by half.

SAMPLES
THIRD PERSON: The gentle creak of wood and the rocking of the boat was what shook Erza out of her deep sleep. What was immediately noticeable was that she had been performing at the festival not a moment before, and this place did not resemble a festival or the city of Magnolia in any way, shape or form.

Her eyes shot open, and she gracefully hopped to her feet, observing the place she'd somehow gotten trapped in while she slept. A boat. Nothing else of importance except sailors...soldiers she did not recognize. Where were Natsu, Gray and Lucy? Erza's mouth set into a thin, hard line. Whoever had been foolish enough of this group to think to kidnap her would pay, and it would be in blood. She gave herself a quick once-over to be certain everything was in the correct place: and her brow furrowed into that of mild concern when she noticed her sword strapped to her waist. Usually, she exquipped it...

...Or perhaps, she'd been in the midst of a battle, and somehow been captured and placed on this boat? That made perfect sense, though it didn't explain why her captors hadn't been smart enough to restrain her, or where the others were. Maybe they'd been separated? Her eyes narrowed, and she unhooked the sword from its place on her waist. She immediately made a beeline for the first soldier she saw, who upon noticing the look on her face and the weapon in her hand, blanched the color of ricepaper.

Very well then, she would demand answers from these soldiers and sailors milled around, and if she didn't get them, well...

She'd always been very convincing. He was already backing away and toward the group of other armored soldiers before she even opened her mouth to speak.

"Tell me where I am. Now."

FIRST PERSON: [various sounds of carnage are heard: guards screaming and running for their lives, the thump of boots against wood and...possibly the roar of flame in the distance. A woman's voice is heard: it's clear she's some ways away from the journal: "Where am I?"]

[a high-pitched, not at all manly shriek, and another voice is heard: "Lady, I told you! Rivelata! Use the book!"]

[there's a pause, and an unsettling crack heard a moment later, then the woman's voice comes in, clearer.]

Fine. I've been told to use this book to pinpoint my location. Where am I, how do I get back home, and most importantly, who is responsible for this? If you're listening: I have your soldiers held hostage and I will begin to destroy this dock and the boat if I don't receive my answers soon. Release me from this illusion and tell me where my friends are, or there will be blood.

[recorded, distantly, she's yelling at someone: "Be quiet! I didn't hit you that hard!"]

NOTES: Erza is a huuuuge godmod so I will be frequently harassing you all to figure out what she can and cannot do as she regains her powers back. And here's the link to my most recent AC. Minako was dropped, so I'm at 8/9 slots if Erza is accepted.
