I thought about your comment to me earlier today for quite a bit, and I have my own blathering nonesense now to tell you...
-I thought about my own experiences with guilt and shame. It seems as if the big difference is shame is the result of an external feeling whereas guilt is more internal. Shame is how other things make me feel where guilt is all my own head issues.
Sure, situations can make me feel guilty, but its more or less a validation of how I was already feeling before that.
Regardless, I am going out with a friend for a beer after class, he will love this conversation piece you have thrust upon me
There's a book out there that I guess talks about some of this stuff, called "One nation under therapy." It's not just that kids don't know shame, but that parent's aren't teaching it because they want their kids to have high self esteem...see next post.
