"The sole. Yeah."

Sirius grinned at the bit of wood in question. It was a good bit, which meant that it would be easy to transfigure, which meant (in the grand scheme of things) that he would keep his word and successfully make a shoe, just as he'd said that he would. He'd make it with magic, of course, but he'd never promised anything different.

"Is that really the leather you're going to use?" This was an expert eye that he cast over the bit in question, or at least a close approximation of what he imagined an expert eye would look like. "Are you sure?"

Most, if not all, of her shoes were made from leather (or some expensive material that she definitely would not find there) so she hadn't thought too much about it when she went to get the material, but the look he was giving her made her raise an eyebrow.

"Is there anything wrong with it?"

"No, 'course not. Not really, anyway." He sighed, letting a note of concern creep into it, and then glanced about, taking stock of their surroundings. "There's no good place for it, either--no proper place, anyway--here, c'mon, we'll just give it a go here."

And without hesitation, he sat down in the dust, grinning up at her. "Give us the wood. You hold on to the leather. Is it two shoes that you're wanting, or just one?"

"Why would I need only-" Right, she was trying to be polite. "The two, if possible."

She looked at him, and then at the ground. She was not sitting down in the dust, so she got closer and handed him the wood.

"Thank you for doing this, by the way."
