DATE: December 1st, night [backdated]
CHARACTER(S): Jonathan Hollom and OPEN
SUMMARY: The wagons are circled, watches are being kept, and one man is greatly disturbed.
LOCATION: Around the campfire.
WARNINGS: Sad, sad little mouse inside.
FORMAT: Whichever.

Jonathan Hollom sat some distance from the campfire, seated on the ground with his back against a crate pulled from the wagon to serve as a seat. After everyone had been fed so far as he could tell, he had retired there and set about trying to be as quiet and still as he could, hoping that he might be forgotten.

"There's an awful lot of bad luck going around..."

Bad luck. There was always bad luck. Wherever he went, there was bad luck.

He didn't doubt that Mister Pullings and the other gentlemen who kept their scheduled watches were angry at him. He'd... There was no other way to put it. He'd begged not to have a watch duty tonight, so they would have to work in three hour watches instead of two, only three people to cover instead of four.

But they didn't understand. Even Mister Pullings didn't know. But Jonathan Hollom had heard Plaice that night, had known how right he was.

"It's imminent. The Jonah. He's causing it. He's calling it up, don't you see? Every time he's on watc, that ship appears. You wait and see. Any time tonight, that ghost ship's gonna turn up, and it's going to take us all with it, straight down to the hot place."

He'd really thought that he was free of it here. That if he just did as Mister Pullings asked and looked after Miss Sansa, he might be able to get along. He'd even started to sort of like it.

But he was a Jonah. At sea or on land, it didn't matter. He was cursed.

And he would be a burden on this wagon party as long as he remained.

...How long would it take for them to realise it? To turn on him, no doubt rightly so, as the Surprises had? And what would they do to him when they did?
