I think people should stop deluding themselves. I am reminded of a passage in War and Peace in which the young Count Pierre, recently having decided to dedicate himself to a life of helping others, travels out to his various estates with the intention of freeing his serfs and improving their lots in life. Suffice to say, he is unsuccessful ( ... )
