Name: Sakura, Hayato.
Fandom: Undertaker Riddle.
History: Sakura Hayato is a boy who's seen and been harassed by ghosts his entire life. On his seventeenth birthday, he meets Riddle, who reveals that he's an Undertaker, and that he can help Hayato with his ghost problem. All he has to do is make a contract with Riddle and accept half of his soul.

When half of Hayato's soul is eaten, the boy agrees to take the contract to avoid dying and to also gain back his soul. He becomes Riddle's partner, helping the other Undertaker to purify and send lingering spirits on to the afterlife. As the story goes on, Hayato spends a lot of time being attacked by powerful corrupt spirits who are after his soul-- or the Twilight Key, as he's called.

Eventually, he and Riddle are called to the underworld--or the Catacomb, as it's called--to meet with the king of the dead, Faust. Once there, she reveals to Hayato that he is her heir, and that his power (the Twilight Key) is the power of a god. With that revelation and a little training, Hayato and Riddle then set out to find the other half of Hayato's soul that he can come into his full power and eventually take Faust's position.

This is roughly where I'm taking him from.
Age: Seventeen. We'll say he's aged up to eighteen in canon. He just.. looks.. a lot younger. :\
Canon Point: After his initial abilities are released by Faust, just after he and Riddle arrive in the human world again.

Personality: A fairly typical teenager for the most part, Hayato likes hanging out with his friends, going to arcades, and otherwise being outside and playing sports. He's outgoing and talkative, and can usually find something to chat about with anyone. He's very friendly and obviously makes new acquaintances fairly easily, as well as has a fairly close circle of friends.

On the other hand, he's kind of a spaz, getting flustered or annoyed pretty easily-- especially when Riddle is involved somehow. There's no one else on earth who can frustrate and confuse Hayato quite like his partner can, and it shows. Though he does have quite a temper in general, and has been known to start shouting if things make him angry enough. He's a very passionate boy in general, and when he feels strongly about something, everyone around him knows it.

With that said, he's no coward, obviously, but he's understandably wary of getting too involved in things he deems strange or none of his business. As far as he's concerned, Riddle and the other Undertakers are all very weird, but it's a weird he has to handle to get his soul back. His particular brand of courage and protectiveness seems to extend to anyone he feels he can help, these days (because now he knows he is strong enough to help people), but it's especially prevalent when it comes to his loved ones. He's very protective of his younger brother, even though they argue nearly constantly, and was willing to do anything to keep him safe.

Unfortunately, he gets flustered pretty easily. Or at least it seems that way, mostly because Riddle seems to do things just to fluster him. Riddle makes him feel distinctly odd, thanks at least in part to his possessiveness and his occasional handsy nature.

Powers/Abilities: Well, in canon, Hayato is called the Twilight Key because of his abilities. First thing's first: his soul. Hayato's soul is extremely special for a couple of reasons, and because of that, he attracts spirits like nobody's business. The nice ones just want to cling and refuse to leave him alone, but the corrupt or bad spirits.. try to.. eat it. :| So chances are, if there are spirits or demons around, they'll be strangely attracted to his tasty insides (and not his organs).

The other thing that makes it special is that it was born with the power of the Twilight Key (as previously mentioned). Now.. what is this, you might ask. Well, my friend, it is the power of a god.

No, I'm not joking. Apparently, the king of the dead has to have the power of the Key, and only when one is born (which is extremely, extremely rare) is the old king allowed to retire and the new king takes his or her place. What is the power of a god, though? The ultimate, most basic ability is that to create and wipe away that creation-- with that said, yes, Hayato can do the same thing.

There's a catch, though, and that's his half-soul and his lack of training. Right now, he can only use that ability three times a day, and it's severely limited-- he can only destroy and recreate things that already exist. Despite that, it has a lot of uses, and can even be used on the human (or not-so-human) body-- like, say, if someone's arm is chopped off or their cells are breaking down or.. what-have-you. It also drains him pretty badly, sometimes, so if he uses it for something major (or if he uses all three times), he needs time to recharge.

On top of that, he is an Undertaker, so when he's in Undertaker role, he can lay a hand on corrupted spirits and release the souls they've eaten. It comes in pretty handy, sometimes.

Prose Sample: This was all just too much. A few weeks ago, he'd just been a normal teenager, and now.. now everything had changed. He'd had his soul half-eaten, he'd been contracted to a grim reaper and now acted as one, himself, and now all this about being the heir of the Catacomb. He didn't want to become the king! Sure, he'd gotten used to the idea of being an Undertaker, and he even kind of enjoyed it sometimes, but.. leaving behind his family and friends? His brother? Would he even be allowed to tell them?

.. Would he ever see them again?

Not to mention-- Riddle. The other Undertaker was so intense, sometimes. Most of the time, he was fairly even-tempered and easy to dismiss, but then sometimes the things he did-- the things he said..

Pinning Hayato down. Grabbing him. His possessive holds and the kiss to his ring. The way he touched him, sometimes. He didn't understand it, couldn't work out why Riddle treated him like that. It was all just too much, sometimes. He just wanted to find the rest of his soul and go back to the way things had been. None of that was possible, now, though, was it?

Sighing to himself, he gave a brief sideglance to his partner, flushing a little at the man's knowing smile, before stepping into the gate. Something was different this time, though-- wrong. There was a yank, his stomach lurched, and he stumbled out on the other side.. into a city? Neon lights, tall buildings, and noise, but it wasn't Japan. No, the signs were all in English. And then he realized that he was there alone. Where was Riddle? He'd come through right behind him, hadn't he?

".. Riddle?"

Pausing uncertainly, he turned, looking around himself to try to spot the flamboyant blond. But-- no sign of him anywhere. Was this his idea of a joke? They didn't have time for this! They had to be looking for Hayato's soul and the spirit who'd stolen it! Not only that, but Riddle had to know that the boy was still reeling from all the information he'd been fed in the last few hours. This wasn't fair.

"Riddle, come on," he growled, peering through the glare of the lights as if the older Undertaker might pop out of somewhere and shout 'boo'. "This is ridiculous, we need to get to work."

.. But wait. What if it wasn't Riddle, after all? What if he'd somehow done something wrong? He hadn't had much practice with his new powers, after all, and he had been pretty nervous.. So evidently, he was in the middle of an English-speaking city, in a country he wasn't sure of, no Riddle in sight, and no way to get back to the Catacomb on his own.

This really was just his luck, wasn't it?
