AFO 2010

Aug 08, 2010 20:14

Ah, what a way to reintroduce myself to the LJ community after a near five month absence. Well, needless to say the past 72 hours of my life have been batshit crazy. However, most of it has been good. In order to save space on your page, or if you want to hear about the best bits, here's a nice breakdown of what all transpired.

Friday started out inauspiciously. I got a decent amount of sleep the night before, so waking up at 8 AM wasn't too bad. However, in the time between us waking up and us leaving town kind of pissed me off. My awesome game show jacket (pics forthcoming) was nearly finished, all we had to do were a few finishing touches. After that, we were already packed, so it was time to run a few errands. Well, that wasn't so simple. I was smart enough to shower the night before so I could get dressed and go, my mom wasn't. Nine became eleven. Mom wanted to clean up the house a bit before we left, eleven became twelve and eventually one. We had to stop by the bank to drop off some paperwork and a few other things, we forgot the paperwork, but we still went. After that, we went and picked up some sodas and snacks for the ride down. It was convenient save for the macaroni and cheese mom decided to buy. We still haven't eaten it. Finally, we had to go and withdraw cash to pay for the tickets. We had to wait so the pin number could be reset. By the time we hit the highway, it was 2:30 and we were a half-hour behind schedule.
The ride down was smooth for the most part, we didn't hit any traffic until downtown Orlando (we were about 15 miles from the hotel, and there was a car accident). I was a bit hungry because the only thing I could have while driving was a Slim-Jim and a Sprite. By the time we got to the hotel, it was 5. I checked in with no issues. Then the worries came. First it was trying to get a parking space near the room. Then, it was having to change rooms because mom found about three or four different reasons why she didn't like the first room. Then it was getting the stuff to the new room and the stuff we forgot out of the first room. I was finally able to go to the convention and get tickets at 6. I ran into Game Show and Sidekick (since he was our sidekick) and they want me to join them in a game show panel. Naturally, I couldn't. Instead I sat in the room for a bit and changed to go to eat. Around 8, we decide to go to The Crab House for dinner. Instead of walking, which was not only feasible but easier, I had to drive. This meant navigating International Drive at 8 PM on a Friday night. Long story short, fifteen minutes of frustration later, we finally get there. It was a good time, good food (expensive but good) and I get back to the hotel.
At about 10, I changed into my night gear and went down to watch and help with Don Mateo's first panel at 10:30, I went down to help with Don Mateo's first panel. Getting there was an issue because mom insisted that I get a ride to the convention center despite the fact that it's a five minute walk in a well-lit area. I get there, tell everyone about what happened, and feel better about it. His panel was a great success, partially thanks to my help, and at 11:30 I leave to go to the hentai panel.
The hentai panel was one of the best experiences in my life. There was a good mixture of trivia, burlesque dancing, a striptease, and some contests. I tried to get in on the action, but to no avail. I stuck around to get some quality pictures, only to realize that I forgot my memory card for my camera. The panel ended an hour early since the host wanted to get drunk, which I saluted. When it came time to take my picture with all the girls, my camera's memory was full. I was able to quickly delete one and make room for my second epic picture of all time. BTW, they're planning on being at a new con starting in Lakeland next June, I believe I will attend. I got some hugs from some of the girls (one of whom was topless) and I got to walk with one of the girls back to our hotel rooms (we were in the same building). After a hug and an ass smack, it was off to bed. I was having a bit of trouble going to sleep, so I flipped through the channels to find something on. I found Showtime, that was airing an episode of The Real L Word. The few minutes I saw featured creamed corn wrestling, nudity, and lesbian sex in that particular order. It was the last thing I saw before I went to sleep.

Real Dialogue:
"If you could get your tits on my head, that would be great."
"They're in your hair."
"Awesome."
"Fuzzy titties!"

2 moments added to my ultimate day

Saturday started around 10. I went a couple of blocks up to get a disposable camera and a couple of other things so I could take pictures. Around 11, I went to the con to walk around and meet with Gameshow before the panel. He was finishing code for the game and we were all talking to each other about introductions and briefing. I headed back to the hotel room to get some lunch, and then arrived at the theater in the suit. The panel was a near-complete success. There was some awesome game action, especially the second game. There were a few technical difficulties, thanks to the last minute code changes to the board. Also, it gave time for Sidekick to fill in the gaps with his own trivia. However, he did try to steal the show a bit, but that helped the two of us realize that he deserves his own show, which we'll help him with. During the panel, there was a surprise appearance from our fangirl, who was excited to see that it was the two of us hosting the panel and we were one of the reasons she came to AFO. After sticking around for another panel, it was back to the room for a few hours. Game Show and I hung out before deciding where to go to eat. We went to Uno Chicago Pizza and Grill. Let me just say, every human being on Earth should get the Farmer's Market Pie with lobster. It's a bit expensive, but it's TOTALLY worth it. After more hanging out in the room, it was on to Don Mateo's third and last panel of the day (fourth of the con). Instead of walking, I had to wait 20 minutes and show up late because, again, mom insisted on me getting a ride over. After I got there, I left early to go to the hentai game show panel. There were laughs, and it was impressive. Finally, there was another panel that was scheduled. However, the host didn't show up. After nearly a half hour, Don Mateo and a few of us decided to hijack the panel. Thankfully, someone came with a laptop and we had some great commentary. We got out late, were thanked by the con staff, and went off to bed.

2 more moments added to my ultimate day.

Sunday was a bit weird. We took the last few pictures with the disposable camera in between visits to the dealers room. We found some shirts and things for everyone we were shopping for, so we decided to walk around a bit afterward. I ran into the fangirl again and we exchanged some contact info, so there are promising avenues with that. Just before 11:30, we left for home. It was raining when we left, and there was a bigger threat for thunderstorms, so driving was slightly tricky. After going through downtown again, traffic was smooth. That is, until right near the New Smyrna Beach exit. There was an accident that backed up traffic so bad people were able to get in and out of their cars and walk in the street for a half an hour. When we got through that, it was smooth sailing the rest of the way aside from a pit stop for gas. We got home around three, and not long after we unpacked and were sitting down to relax, the power goes out. I don't know if that was a sign for something, but anyways. Now I'm sitting waiting to get all of the pictures.

And that was my weekend. I had a great time, and now I can focus on the start of the semester and EXPCon in October. The good mood has been perpetuated.
