That an interesting con would end on this particular day. EXPCon 2010 started off excellently. Although, I did notice the energy change over the course of the weekend. It seemed to get a little bit mellow and almost lackluster as the days wore on. But enough about that, let's get a recap.
Friday started like any other day. I woke up, dropped my mom off at her class, and got ready for the con. I gave my friend (whose LJ name slips my mind) a ride down. I ran into her mom who was extremely excited to see me. For some reason she's crazy about me. But anyway, she and I had a chance to talk about our personal situations with relationships. It was a good talk, and I got to the con in time for opening ceremonies, which I found was an hour later than I thought, which is rare. After that, it was time for the first game show. Watching it reminded me of the first time Gameshow and I did our first panel. There were some bugs, but overall it was good, they will be one of our first Seals of Approval, when that gets straightened out.
Then it was on to Console Alliance. I had never heard of them before, but it seemed interesting to kill an hour. They showed off some of their work and I was impressed, but I'm still debating whether or not to look into them some more.
After trolling around for a while, it was time for the Room of Randomness. The original people didn't show up on time, so we thought it would be delayed. However, we were wrong.
I was able to meet a few interesting people waiting outside of the panel. We talked, took pictures, the whole deal. Since we were there and the room was empty, the takeover was imminent. There was laughter, stories about a chicken, girls dancing and making out with each other, a mini-rave, the works. Afterwards, we all went off to an afterparty up in their hotel room. We got to talking some more, a couple of crushes were developed, consuming alcohol, and after a while it was time for me to go home. I had to go to Gameshow's house to plan and collaborate for Saturday, and after that it was off to crash for the night with Don Mateo, Ninjew and the gang. Before I went to bed, I had a long talk about life and tried to help a friend. There were a lot of things that came out into the open, and I think we were all better for it.
Saturday started off weird. As I was calling home to let mom know that I needed to pick up something, and I found out that my brother's car was messed up. This gave me an opportunity to pick him up, go home and get ready for the day. Also, through chance and arrangements, I was able to stay the night at my place. By the time all was said and done, it was off to the con for our big day.
The show had some glitches, again. It as the board, again. After four great shows, some live action whammies, and twelve different issues, we ended the tournament with...sorry. The video will be up on YouTube. When it is, I'll let you know and you can check it out. The turnout started low, but picked up nicely despite the fact that a printing error kept us out of the con guide. We were miffed at first, but we got over it. It was a good time, but I had to avoid this one guy I know. He's nice, but he's mentally challenged, so...yeah.
I had to go back home for a few hours, but when I got back there was really nothing too much to do. I went to this one panel, Not Exactly Late Night. It was like a talk show, but everyone on stage was hard to understand and there were some funny shadow puppets going on. Since the Room of Randomness didn't go too well, I went to the Angry Gamer Panel. When that let out at midnight, the hotel was doing a room key check so I couldn't go to the second afterparty; thus, I went to the rave for a while, hung out, then went home.
This was the most low-key day of the con. It started with The People's Panel, which had almost no audience for the first half-hour. Thankfully, people started flowing in and making it a success, to many people's surprise. Then: Rollers. There were some great questions, and a very fast pace to the show, which we wanted. That went with only three hitches (which were minor) and we were able to catch up on schedule. Finally: Password. There were some tough words, and we were only able to go through a couple of games before it came to us. When it did, my prediction came true. Two years ago, we defended the grand prize by winning the bonus round 29-0. Last year, we needed overtime and a key clue to eek out an 18-17 win. This year, well, you'll see it in the YouTube video. After going to Don Mateo's panel, it was time to hit the road home.
I came home with an emotional sting (thanks to the results of the personal situation) and a physical sting (a random hallway table in which Yours Truly banged his knee, it still hurts). It's taking time to sort out my emotions and cool down to look toward to this week. It was a weird time, but it was fun nonetheless.
